:uarrow: The biggest problem is the shear including mid-level shear which has likely prevented Hanna from blowing up into a Cat.2 or Cat.3. But it’ll still be a Cat.1 likely still landfall and a decent one at that.

Interesting.
GFS really bombs this just before landfall.
Vorts stack and deepen thru 250mb even in light of the so-called sheer.
We shall see.

Hanna’s IR presentation really took a beating overnight. Did she take a gulp of dry air just before closing off that eyewall?

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

IR imagery doesn't look very good this morning, but the radar presentation shows a more organized storm than last night.

Poor Miss Piggy, flying from one end of the gulf to the other end. But soon.....
Looking at radar it looks maybe a bit north of the track moving W.

My bet is that Recon will find Hanna to be a solid Cat 1 Hurricane. With 8-10 hours still left before landfall Cat 2 is not out of the question if not Cat 3.

A Cat 1 is high likely by landfall. However, since Hanna’s IR presentation has regressed and it only has 10 hours or less over water, I’m now highly doubtful it’ll surpass 80 kt.

At this range, IR presentation is trumped by radar presentation, which has indicated in recent loops that Hanna has closed off her western eyewall 10-15k feet up. Also, there's not really been much of a degradation (at all) in IR structure, just the expected slight warming of cloud tops since dmax has passed.

It just keeps getting better and better on radar, so I don't put too much stock into the IR appearance. It definitely seems to still be strengthening. Also, 10 hours is a long time!

Glad they put the hurricane warnings up for Corpus Christi, at least Hanna hasn't stalled.
