Beautiful downpour for about 45 minutes. Even some flash flooding as I was driving down the tollway towards 183.

Huge blowup of convection in the west Gulf today. Man, if only that could move straight north!

70s and low 80s for late July? Is this real? We frequent 100+ the second half of July almost every year. It really hasn't been a terrible summer. The start of the month did get a little Hot, especially in central and S Texas, but even that was not extraordinary to some of the true Texas heat waves.

I picked-up about an inch of rain earlier today. Yep, not bad at all for the last week of July.

I really don't understand why the state government would post these signs all throughout the state when it wasn't going to significantly impact many areas. It seems more useful to utilize those signs in areas that are expecting significant effects. I am not sure what the impacts were on gas by activating the signs in other areas, but I am sure a lot more people went to the pump. Imagine the chaos this could cause if a strong hurricane was going to hit Mexico or Louisiana and the state posted the same signs. I think there could be a real problem with potential unnecessary gas shortages.
I'm not sure if the system the state uses for the signs has the ability to focus different messages on different areas of the state. It could be one message being sent out to all, kinda like the child abduction emergency messages.
They could also be posted under the premise that some people may unknowingly travel to where the storm is.
This could absolutely be the case. I just think that a lot of people would head to the pump even if it's not expected to impact their area. I remember in 2008, my grandparents evacuated for Hurricane Gustav when it was expected to make landfall in Louisiana. There were local meteorologists saying that they did not think the storm was going to hit Southeast Texas, but my grandparents listened to the national media instead. My point is that sometimes people listen to whoever they think is most credible and clearly they thought that national media was the more credible source. A whole lot of people pay attention to those signs on the highway too.

Yep. A little over two weeks to go for peak climo then the averages start dropping. A psychological victory but as we all know summer heat can last well into September. Could it be possible to have only the one or two 100 degree days this summer? That would be nice.

Yep I sure am enjoying this pattern. Raining here now for like the 5th straight day...probably adding up to around 4 inches or so. Not bad for late July!
Now if only we could get some of this liquid gold to our friends in central Texas...

Up in Little Elm, TX for a couple more days on a cove of Lewisville Lake at a HomeAway rental. Was cloudy and moist past couple days. Hot and sunny today. Storms overnight tonight?
