Showers and thunderstorms associated with a broad area of low
pressure, located a few hundred miles south-southeast of the Cabo
Verde Islands have become more concentrated this morning. Some
development of this system is possible during the next day or two
before environmental conditions become unfavorable.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...20 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...low...20 percent.

This could be a sleeper storm that sneaks up on us a little bit. Probably already qualifies as a TC, but I don't blame the NHC for waiting for some consistency. If we do get a depression out if this it probably won't last very long - conditions past Cabo Verde are pretty hostile.

Needs a STWO ASAP upping to at least 50/50 and advisories initiated by 11 if trends continue, IMO. This just snuck up on us.

My professional opinion: This is a TC and should be classified as such. It meets all the criteria.

It's amazing how NHC has been very conservative initiating advisories this year and we are STILL at nine named storms already.

Probably should have been classified late yesterday imo, but now we can confirm it's closed. Hey at least it's finally on the TWO... if it keeps looking impressive it will surely meet the persistence criterion so I can imagine they'd probably pull the trigger then

I agree. I have been following this system for the past two days, and even commennted earlier in this thread that it was a full fledged TC possibiy going back to Tuesday afternoon.

Clearly at least a TD at the moment, just about everyone bar the NHC seem to see it.

Good closed circulation and good presentation, still reminding me of TS Hanna before it really strengthened.

If it doesn't get upgraded, then it's almost certainly a post season candidate.

Another huge point to mske is that if this system gets named Josephine before 12 a.m. Saturday morning, it would give us 6 named tropical cyclones for the month of July.

6 storms!! In July!! Wrap your mind around that alone.
