This and Gonzalo were really fun ones to track.

And it's only August 3. We might get to Greek names again this year.

The background pressure is quite high so 980 would probably be a cat 2.

NE to SW eye wall pass incoming. Should go through that new area of higher radar reflectivity in the eastern eyewall. Will be interesting to see if those winds are coming down to the surface now.

When hurricane charley came through jacksonville we had a period on the backside where it was extremely windy >70mph gusts with no rain. If this is a sting jet looks like ill be in ground zero here in jacksonville. Should get interesting in a couple of hours.

I think an extreme wind warning should be issued for southern NC coast due to the potential for very intense wind gusts. 117kt FL wind does justify it.

It’s always fascinating to see tropical cyclone/upper jet interaction with an incoming trof. This type of strengthening is common as TCs begin to recurve in the Subtropical Atlantic. We are seeing it on the doorstep of the US with all kinds of instruments to sample the action. It’s going to be a rough night in the Carolinas.

95.5 mph gust on frying pan tower - wow! That instrument is 135 ft above the water. Heaviest wind still to come. Averaging 77 mph.

Wind gusts associated with the extratropical-like sting jet feature are much higher than sustained winds. The wind damage potential here is much worse than a deep tropical CAT1 like Hanna.

I live in a town 20 miles west of Boston on the top of a hill and I am hoping the eastern side doesn't mix those winds down to the surface

Not an meteorologist! Just someone who is interested in weather. Please refer to the NHC and local weather officials to make decisions.
