That keeps the Western Gulf and Texas wet but will that just be increased rain associated with the MJO 7-8 swing or tropical activity? As long as the EPAC is on fire, then the Gulf should be shut down but as the MJO moves there will be a window during which the Gulf will need watching.
I am quite concerned about the timing of this event if it occurs. Late August/early September is a very high risk time for tropical cyclones in Texas.
Both the GFS and Euro continue to show a persistent weakness in the western Gulf in the period outlined above by bubba hotep. It seems like once the southern end of the High Pressure Ridge of Death erodes over Texas, it's going to open us up to whatever is percolating in the Caribbean and Gulf. I would agree with y'all that this is a period we need to watch closely.
Looking at the Western Gulf's water temperature, it certainly has plenty of energy to fuel a very strong hurricane. The top image shows the temperatures on August 4th. Look how they have warmed even more in the second image taken today. This is not good if something gets into the Gulf with favorable conditions.

Typical mid-August weather. I think I would rather have a cold front with rain than a weakness develop for storms to take advantage of during peak season. Let's hope that there is just rain (not too much though).

If there are fronts coming that will pretty much shut the door on hurricane season for Texas.

Well at least there is a possibility of something more exciting over the next 3 to 4 days. Will still be hot, but hopefully some storms as long as said storms make it over the Rain Cave. I'm so over this 105 degree heat!

Obviously not a lot to talk about. It's been dry here in Longview for a couple of weeks. Some area have been lucky. SW AR had 4"-10" the other day. The MCS's that have tried to build toward my area of the I-20 corridor in East Texas have fizzled. Finally seeing 100 degree temps. Cold front on Sunday/Monday looks to bump temps back into the low 90's with only a very slight chance of rain.
Needless to say I've begun watering my lawn!

You folks on the coast need to stay vigilant. The GEFS-Para had been highlight a potential Texas coast hit for a while(but the 12z run is a bit more spread out today.) and the Canadian is showing 2 storms in the western Gulf, back to back.

I’ve been expecting us to get hit. I’ve been saying we’re probably going to get hit here this year since the beginning of the season.

I see em storms on radar. Nice to see. Largish complex at the border would drop a good amount if it holds.

Nice temp drop with the storms. Now it’s rising again in a break. That always fascinated me that it can warm rapidly after a storm, but it doesn’t always.

Re: Texas Summer 2020
Well, Hello my weather friends....
I haven't been on here since? well I don't remember..
ANyway last nights rain was the first rain of August for me, the last few times any rain moved through it went east of me.
Can't complain about summer as it's pretty much been normal, but DAMN do we hafe to have a La Nina headed into Fall??? That just sucks!!!

Re: Texas Summer 2020
I managed to get .69” with the overnight storms early Monday morning. Heaviest rainfall since June. It’s been nice to have a little break from the oppressive heat. Enjoy it while it lasts - could be the calm before the storm - especially for those of us along the coast...

We got about a 0.10" of an inch yesterday afternoon with a rogue shower that popped up yesterday. Temp went from 97 to the 80s. Felt nicer this morning, lower DP.

Very pleasant evening. The low DP's make all the difference in the world.

Latest 12z Euro has 97L going into the mid TX coast as a strong wave or depression.
