Historical tidbit: Laura replaced Lili in 2002, which also was a Category 4 in the GOMEX that made landfall in Louisiana.

How’s the weather In NOLA this morning?

Windy and overcast. Lots of low clouds streaming in from the ESE. Probably 15-20 gusting to 25. I have to go to work but this is one morning I didn’t want to skip all that went down and got reported on overnight. The thread jumped 3-4 pages while I was catching up so I was excited to dig through it and obviously now I know why. Looks extreme from about Abbeville over to Beaumont with points in between successively worse. We don’t often see majors much less majors landfalling so I feel like this is an important day to gain insight and information and answer a couple of what if’s and could that happens.

This morning a meteorologist on one of the news channels in Miami kept saying that Laura's eye is becoming "exposed" when she really meant it's becoming visible (or opening up). "Exposed" suggests it's on the edge of the convection (at least, to me it does).

Huge reason why people should not just pay attention to the center. This will have far reaching impacts. The most devastating impacts from surge will extend well away from the center.

957mb extrapolated (from Air Force, not NOAA)! The deepening rate is incredible.

This to me is the most scariest part, Helicity continues to increase.
I have never seen this before in a TC, yet over land.

This shows Significant Tornado Potential.
Pretty much off scale.
If this stays like this and gets on shore, it'll blow houses off their foundations.
Look how big it is!!!

Lots of small towns like Vinton, Vidor, DeQuincy, then Sulphur, Carlyss, Lake Charles, Hackberry, Cameron.

Inundation maps are very concerning https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at3+shtml/091953.shtml?inundation#contents

Red > 9 ft all the way north of Lake Charles. Rivers and estuaries are going to flood by all indications well away from the coast ( like 50 miles from the actual coast). Of course there is not a lot actual "land" above sea level. Put 15 inches or more rain on that and wave action at those water levels...not good.

Which meteorologist? Need to know who can be trusted with good info.

I pray they get out of some of those places. It will not be pretty

Winds lagging behind pressure drop again, but it won't last for long. This thing is making a run for CAT4 at noon.
