I am simply awestruck looking at this cyclone on satellite imagery this morning. It never ceases to amaze me after all these years working in this business.

Again, Godspeed to all in the path of this absolute monster!!

How's the situation looking in SW LA, Is it completely evacuated? This 11am advisory is going to be nasty

Anyone down playing this system, you should understand that there are people on here who get their weather information from us. Be mindful of that. Also, it is quite ignorant to claim this storm could have been worse. Heck, plenty of storms could have been worse, even Katrina. This is a bombing out near cat 4 hurricane with another 12-14 hours over water. The surge and wind impacts will be extremely bad. Nah, epic level bad, historic level bad. :(

I pray to God that everyone with complete senses would have evacuated the heck out of that region at this point!!

My hunch is that this bottoms out around 908-912 and gets winds of 165-175. I dearly hope it weakens prior to making landfall...

Do not take anything I say seriously as a form of meteorological prediction. I am not a meteorologist; I don't think being in law school translates to any special knowledge. I am just a somewhat bullish amateur watcher.

I'll add that Laura will only exacerbate the crisis the US already faces with the pandemic & recession.

The last thing we need right now is a major hurricane, and if I had to guess, I don't think it'll be the only one to impact us this season.

AF pass extrapolated 952.9 mb. The instrument has a low bias, but 956 seems reasonable

To put it in perspective: we’re about to have a CONUS landfalling major hurricane. Since 2005, this has only happened three times (Harvey, Irma, Michael).

Stop the bickering now unless you want to take a 3 day vacation.

Pressure continues to drop, at least another 3 mb by extrap.

That's the extrap measurement, on the last pass extrap showed 957 mb, but it still is a nice drop.
