My prayers to all in the path and am hoping those that decided to stay behind are above the surge level in sturdy dwellings. I'm fearful many will decide to ride out the storm with the COVID pandemic. This storm appears to be another Michael or Katrina. In addition to the coastal surge impact, their will be hurricane force wind gusts well inland probably leading to massive power outages across a wide swath of east Tx/West La and even southern Arkansas.

They don’t actually explicitly call for a Cat 5 in the advisory.

and a CAT 5 is 157 mph to be official, not that it makes a difference at this point

There is nowhere to hide out here when chasing except where I am at right now.

If you are chasing and read this please come now to Lakeshore and Broad in Lake Charles. Now. You WILL have exit paths blocked by surge very soon.

Good move by you Chuck. Save a life, then get some great video's. FYI, hope you brought a hell of a lot of slim-jims, Little Debbies & beer. You may suddenly discover 125 new friends that you never knew you had

I'm in a hurricane-related Facebook group where hundreds of people in Beaumont, Port Arthur, Lake Charles and Orange are planning to ride out the hurricane. I managed to convince one lady to evacuate (which I'm still feeling pretty good about), but it's incredible how many people are planning to stay and boasting about it.

You know you're a hurricane nut, when your main source of adrenaline is reading old hurricane advisories...

Fresh recon about to make its first pass.

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

KWT wrote:Amazing presentation at the moment, though I do note that the southern quadrant is just starting to thin a little in terms of the larger precip shield and eyewall. Probably a hint of the shear, especially as some mets have said the southern side is the area that will be first impacte as it becomes a little more lopsided again (we saw that with Katrina and Rita as well in 05).

Probably a fair chance recon finds close to cat-5 when its next in that NE quadrant...

This might be because the radar returns from that side are being blocked by the heavy precipitation. Not seeing any degredation on the satellite.

Exactly. The effects of a strong Cat 4 or low end Cat 5 are no different, very much the same.

Be on the lookout for an EWRC within the next couple hours, especially as frictional effects begin to alter the structure of this storm. We saw with Harvey and Michael, that those last 2-3 hours before landfall can be explosive given the right conditions.

Anticipating winds in the 145-150 range. I believe she's peaking as I type this.

The in-town areas around Panama City took a month for power to be restored. Many rural locations took close to Christmas before power was restored. Cable and internet services from Comcast took close to 4 months to be restored.

Good luck to all of you in its path. This one's going to hit hard all the way to Little Rock so I hope people in Shreveport and other communities in its path are preparing.

Watching if the trend continues.

What would that mean if the trend continues?

Possible start of EWRC

This is not the storm to ride out, unless you have a death wish.
