I read what a poster stated a short time ago that many people may have decided to ride out the storm due to COVID-19 and not going to shelters in.place. It would be an enomorous catastrophe if people decided to do this instead of evacuating. This monster storm is just something you don't ride out if you value life!!

When was the last time an upper end cat 4 hit that area with a double figure storm surge? If it was a long time ago, complacency may be due to complete ignorance of what a hurricane of Laura's power is capable of doing. Having said that, you'd have thought they'd have seen what Michael did to Nexico Beach.

Probably just a wobble but it looks like it's going due north in that loop. What a monster.

Yeah, really worried about those chasers out there.

If they are in that area, they must be amateurs because from what I've heard from experienced chasers, they don't want any part of that
area, no way out...a real death trap.

No clear EWRC shown on radar. Btw Laura's NE quadrant looks VIOLENT, can't wait the next recon pass.

It highlights how dreadful people are at risk assessment.

Between a chance of catching covid and certain violent drowning death, I think I'd take my chances at the shelter

Colors of lost purpose on the canvas of irrelevance

Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.

Tropical storm winds look like they will extend to Lafayette. The upper level winds might push strong effects from this system well in land.

What an evil looking storm. This is probably near or above 130 kt by now.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

Watching if the trend continues.

What would that mean if the trend continues?

Possible start of EWRC

I have a hard time imagining a nearly 25 mile wide eye to undergo an EWRC. I'd have to think we'd first see greater eye contraction first, and then start an EWRC. Given the small window of time prior to landfall, the little remaining time would seem to only be enough for further contraction to occur. Course' that would nearly assure the storm shedding another 10 mb or so. NO BUENO

Very low dense area along the coast, but many folks going to lose a lot of property and hopefully not their lives.

And I'm probably going to lose a lot of my crabbing grounds.

You might have all new crabbing grounds.

It looks a lot like Michael there, in the way that the deepest convection is situated. I would not be surprised to watch it strengthen in the same manner in response to shear.

Doesn’t matter how far a storm might be from an EWRC, there will still be myriad posts saying that one is about to begin at any given time.
