Forgive my ignorance but why are there so many tornado warnings when the sustained winds are already hurricane force? does it matter if there is a tornado spin up within a 100 mph storm?

How far away is the eye from landfall and how fast is it moving?

Laura is no Rita as it was making landfall, comparing them on radar at about the same spot, Rita was a little further west with a much worst presentation on radar.

If it did get any stronger it would only be like 5 mph more anyway. I’m going with the weather channel that mentioned the intensity has leveled off

So far with the storm chasers I’ve just watched guys check radar images on their laptops... are there any cams showing the effects of the storm yet?

The nhc says it’s continued strengthen all night but it’s out of time for any significant intensification so I’ll agree she won’t make Cat 5.

Not posting much I know. It is getting a little crazy here. Lots and lots of tornado chasers and this is their first hurricane.

That being said I just talked to the two chasers who were in Cameron. They bailed out of there just in the nick of time. What happens is you are driving towards hurricane. Suddenly you are blocked by 5 ft of water in a low spot. You turn around and suddenly there’s 5 ft of water.

You are trapped and you will probably die in a Cat 4-5 hurricane.

But I am impressed with what they did. I was going to do the exact same thing go to Cameron. But if I left this garage I could not get back in. So I took the safer route.

But man good on those two for reaching out and touching a beach that is disappearing FOREVER.

They are good men.

Although I have been a hurricane forecaster since 1980 that only means I've been wrong lots of times.

Looks like the AF plane will be able to complete one last pass in the NE eyewall nearing landfall.

Jeff "Blue Shed" P. is turning on all his cameras, he saw a power flash in Lake Charles from on top the parking structure: https://www.pscp.tv/Jeff_Piotrowski/1rmxPYqmYpVKN
