Stunning yet horrifying at the same time, it’s not often that you see something like this

Michael had higher winds but this storm seems to have a stronger core structure. It might hold up longer over land

Well what a storm Laura has been. In the end, not Hispaniola, not Cuba, not Marco's cold wake, and not even the shear were going to stand in its way. It did what it wanted to do. Remarkable. I hope those affected recover quickly and hope there are no lives lost. God speed.

One thing is for sure, there will never be another storm named Laura.

Yeah, I understand on the yelling. But I'd think that sitting in the eye-wall of a 150 mph Cat 4 hurricane produces red-line levels of adrenaline.

And I'd guess most of us would be a little bit pumped up and talking louder over the roar of the wind.

I just can't believe the technology that we get to utilize today. Imagine all of this back in the day of Andrew. Wow, can't even imagine.

Seems to be maintaining its strength through landfall which is fairly impressive, could see it maintain at least CAT 2 strength through Shreveport.

I suppose this may be a good time to say my girlfriend Laura said this would be a Cat 5 back over the weekend (she was close). She also said Michael was a Cat 5 when it hit her favorite beach, way before in was classified as one in post season.

estimated peak intensity of 135 kt from 1800 UTC 8 September to 0000 UTC 9
September is based on a blend of SFMR and flight-level aircraft data from two consecutive Air
Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter missions. During the first mission, the aircraft measured peak
700-mb flight-level winds of 146 kt and 142 kt at 1208 UTC and 1356 UTC 8 September,
respectively, which equate to an intensity of about 130 kt. The highest “unflagged” SFMR
measurement during the same flight was 125 kt. On the next flight, the plane measured a slightly
lower peak 700-mb flight-level wind of 135 kt at 0026 UTC 9 September. The highest SFMR
measurement was 142 kt a few minutes later, however this observation was surrounded by
multiple flagged values and data dropouts, making the measurement somewhat questionable.

It really does seem like Laura used the wind whipping around the corners of the islands to tighten up.
