NEVEERRR underestimate the western Caribbean this time of year..

The fact that a small system like Nana was able to push through shear to become a last minute hurricane means baaaad things for the rest of the season. This is the same area where Wilma and Gilbert, the two most intense hurricanes in the Atlantic, peaked! This season is def far from over

She did it. After nearly becoming crippled with a broken leg exposed center she managed to chug all the way through. Unfortunately it continues the theme of intensifying storms up to landfall.

Not a good trend as we approach the “P” storm on the 2nd of September. I have a feeling we’ll be speaking Greek in October.

To stay out of the Greeks we’d have to suddenly enter an inactive period at peak season in an active year. Gonna be hard not to get there.

I would not usually trust his opinion, and plus NHC may have more data access then we can see, as seen during Laura when one plane we didn’t see found a C2 to our surprise.

I agree. I don’t see that happening. The waves are still rolling off Africa like a conveyer belt and the Western Carib is a tinder box for TCs. I have a bad feeling that we will see quite a bit of potent action coming out of the western Caribbean and GOM towards the end of September through October.

if we have 3 more majors at least, the minimum total ends at 18/8/4. this is without a doubt going to end as a very above average season at the least.

Unlikely a storm this small could survive the trek across the mountains.

It looked like only one or two passes supported hurricane intensity and the rest were quite below it. The area of hurricane-force winds had to have been very very small.

That might at least partly be due to what appears to be a center relocation to the southwest in those fixes.

Appears to also be tightening up once again with the very fast angular velocity of the new convection firing close to the center.

Regardless, post season analysis should give more conclusive answers.

Wow this really got its act together quickly tonight. Way to go Nana! I hope everyone in its path has prepared and are fine. 5 hurricanes though. That’s a decent amount for this early in the season, even if the named storm to hurricane ratio isn’t great.
