Tell Dorian to hold his horses, I'm already being lectured by Andrew.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

I'm guessing that Recon will be needed by Saturday? That would be a long flight from St. Croix though.

If Paulette is doing so well right now, I could certainly see it becoming a major hurricane once it gets into prime conditions. Shades of Florence who fought off 40 kt of shear quite well too.

The shear might be enhancing divergence as well.

Don’t they sometimes fly out of Bermuda?

Paulette certainly has given me Florence vibes, but even more so when the official NHC forecast track showed NW motion becoming W/WNW and then changing to NW. Still, this is a storm that became stronger than anticipated in the near term (although not to the same degree as Flo) before heavy shear kicked in, and it’s likely to rapidly intensify once shear lessens.

Wow. Never seen ASCAT this high with a tropical storm considering undersampling. Many of those barbs are flagged, but even excluding those it maxes out around 55kt.

Are those gravity waves in the SE outflow?
We might well have a hurricane on our hands if this keeps up.

They shot it up to 55 kt because of that ASCAT pass. The NHC now forecasts a 90 kt Cat 2 peak in 5 days.

Not good at all for Bermuda, I didn't think it was supposed to strengthen at all today with all that shear...

Wow, I wasn't expecting that. Isn't she supposed to be weakening?
