Cat 3 looking likely, probably 115-120mph peak I'd guess.

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

It was a blend of earlier FL and SFMR per the discussion.

if the weather channel had their way there would be warnings from Houston to Key West... their cone is usually 40% larger than the NHC... to aatract more viewers. The Weather Channel... For entertainment purposes only.

I stopped watching the tropical update on the Weather Channel when John Hope died. I remember at :48 after to tune into TWC and back then it was the best source for tropical weather. Truly disappointing to see what they have become.

Sally is over deep water currently, so don't expect too much upwelling until it gets close to the shore. Doubtful it will get much stronger which will hopefully help keep the surge at a minimum, though that is tough to predict.

Unfortunately flooding will be an issue. I have already seen how much rain Sally can dump in a short amount of time.

Even more pronounced now. It seems hurricanes become especially vulnerable to this when they start carving out an eye. I am guessing this is what’s responsible for the slight rise in pressure as well. Should only level off for a couple hours though, get ready for DMAX tonight...

So all the park and rides for Defuniak - 30A workers are shot too? Haven't heard anything from local news.

Looking at radar, theres some storms firing off there so I don't think it will last much longer

I didn't think 4 miles was even possible.

I don’t know. Was at work in Destin and during a conference call, they told us that the bridges were closing. We had to rush to count the registers and leave. lol

This is not a good situation. There is no way to get back up to freeport/niceville/defuniak if the bridges are closed. Also harder to get preps done. Is it just mid bay and 331 or is the one over lake Powell closing too?

As far as I know, they were closing the 331/Freeport bridge and toll bridge in Destin.

Well, Wilma's was 2.3 (record) and Opal's 10, but 4 miles is really tiny.

That process might isolate a moisture pocket with the CoC inside it. I remember the same process happened to Cristobal in June and allowed to it start strengthening a bit as it approached landfall, although it was limited by its massive size and disorganized core.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.
