Looks to me like Pensacola area as a Cat 2 min. Fortunately for us Mobile has been spared from the brunt of Sally in a big way. Praying for all those to our East.

Re: ATL: SALLY - Hurricane - Discussion
Not good. I got a sick feeling earlier today when I saw what appeared to have strengthening storm. The flooding is bad enough....serious winds on top of it is a mighty 1, 2 punch.
At least those in the warning area had plenty of time to prepare.
I hate to say this, but Sally may be going through a bombing phase right now at the worst possible time. It looks as strong as it ever has right now.

Fort Walton Beach has A LOT of oak trees with limbs that weigh as much as a car. I expect an abundance of power outages by morning.

I can see 80 kt, but they'd probably want to see more than that dropsonde to go to 85.
Didn't they revise the first 85 kts down to 80? So technically it hasn't ever reached cat 2 yet? Or did I misread that this morning when it was posted
That is correct.

Lots of people in the panhandle thought nothing of this storm until pretty much yesterday. It was a bizarre atmosphere around here as I tried to explain to family and friends that the scenario we see now was possible.

Sally has slowed her Mustang down to a crawl...

That's what I thought. That 988mb pressure as a cat 2 was suspicious to me anyway considering it's pushing 970 now as a cat 1.

Yikes that eye clearing out there looks very concerning considering it's going to make landfall soon....and by soon I mean whenever Sally feels like it.

Okaloosa county along with Gulf Power spent a good part of summer trimming trees away from lines. I'm hoping that effort pays off with fewer outages....yet to be seen.

Eye and wind field are quite a bit larger now though.

Quick question for those more in tune with the forecasting profession. It is simply a formality at this point, but why are places like Gulfport and Pass Christian under Hurricane Warnings, but Fort Walton Beach is not?

"Sake of continuity". But if it continues this east movemen warnings could possibly be extended to okaloosa/walton line.

Re: ATL: SALLY - Hurricane - Discussion
If you're in the rain area associated with Sally and you have any street drains at the curbs near your house, you might want to go out and check them if you get a lull in the rain. We had to do that a lot in our neighborhood during Harvey, and I'm convinced that we saved some houses from flooding. The first few rain bands and wind bursts result in all kinds of debris (small branches, leaves -- especially magnolia leaves -- pine needles, newspapers that weren't picked up, etc.) and a lot of it ends up as a "beaver dam" at the drains. If you can clear them out (don't throw the debris back in the water, or it'll end up in the same spot, more than likely!), it could go a long way in keeping the local flooding down.
EDIT: Oh, yeah -- unless you really know the layout of the street, do not walk through even shallow water on the street if the flooding is getting bad. A backed-up drainage system could pop manhole covers, and you do not want to step into an open manhole that's full of water. At night, no less.
Godspeed, everybody...

If you drew a line from her western most position this afternoon she is wobbling toward P'Cola.

Is something down the road to make it go some where? Or are we just in a holding pattern?

That don't help when you have 70ft oaks and pines coming down.
