That's a fairly conservative wind estimate - they may be waiting to see if it holds up longer.

Ivanhater I truly wish you the best in all of this. I have a bad feeling about this one. I'm not normally one to sensationalize my posts, but with the entire area receiving 7-10 inches of rain in the past 36 hours, the amount of downed trees and powerlines is going to present some issues.
It is the same feeling sitting here on the exact same night as Ivan. Glad to see you and other familiar faces here though!
September 16 and Deja vu. I was in Milton for Ivan. Now I am on Blackwater Bay. Very surge prone area. Gonna be a long night I am afraid

Hopefully you have a way to stay in contact with them...I saw where ECUA was cutting water to the island at 11 pm due to a main break.

They should be ok. Have them get away from windows in eyewall.

Yea, that was a bad idea. They should have left today.

Yes I saw this on Twitter and we were able to get that info to them to start filing everything up they could to have water.

Portfino? If so, they should be ok, but getting out of there will be a problem.

At this rate, a major hurricane can't be ruled out.
It do not forsee this reaching major status, but who knows. It is 2020 with this crazy season. We definitely have a strengthening cyclone occuring now and it will make it back to Cat 2 intensity befire landfall imo. There was a lag with the winds, but now they are catching up with the dropping barometric pressure.
Pensacola NAS now reportng just under 15 inches of rain and we have not even had landfall yet. Historic rainfall when it is all said and done.

Well I am getting absolutely no sleep tonight watching the recon flight into Sally and waiting for its inevitable upgrade back to a Cat 2.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

How is it that 10 minutes suddenly feels like an hour when waiting for a crucial recon pass?
