What does that mean? Is that inversion good or bad for the storm?

The inversion puts a block on the exchange of energy from the water.
Once the inversion is gone, it allows much more energy to flow into Delta.

There is a good analogy with the development of afternoon thunderstorms over land.
A thermal inversion in the lower atmosphere in the mornings blocks moist air from rising into the cooler atmosphere to precipitate.
Solar heating of the land during the day breaks down that inversion and then the thunderstorms quickly develop in the afternoon.
Pretty much the same principle here.

Ah thanks

I will definitely agree this is the best it's looked!

Likely a major again if I had to guess.

Thanks, I just read it. so are you saying the inversion is staying which would make it harder to gain strength?

Yes that is correct. Quite a significant pressure drop in the last few hours. Not good at all! We may be seeing Delta regain Cat 4 intensity a bit later this evening. This potential is certainly there.

Winds in the southwest quadrant haven't come up yet will probably see that next pass.

954.2 mb on this pass, even with the adjustment, that is sub 960mb. Im guessing they will adjust it to 958mb...

Hopefully we will.get another center pass before the 5pm(edt) advisory.

Keep in mind also the back left quadrant is typically the weakest part of a hurricane in the northern hemisphere.

If Delta was threatening Texas or Florida this thread would be super active.

Sure. But remember that those had a lot more mystery. We have had a pretty good idea for several days what this was going to do.

Mixing quite well now, given how close the SFMR values were to the FL wind found.

Should be getting the NE quad here shortly. If it's a major hurricane again we'll find out shortly

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.
