When Delta makes landfall tomorrow, it will be the third hurricane landfall on the Gulf Coast in the last four years during the four-day period October 7-10 (Nate, Michael, Delta).

Not sure how far that buoy is from the eye but the pressure is down to about 965mb

Looks like the buoy bottomed out at 953.1mb with an 8 mph wind, so pretty much hit the center

Air Force is making their first pass. Think they found 100kt SFMR on the way in.

I was just outside walking the dog [in Alvin, about 25 miles S of Houston]. Overcast with low scud, more humid than it's been for the past few days, a nice ENE breeze -- definitely that "tropical" feel. The only strange thing is that it's cooler than it should be according to my personal climatology. These conditions normally happen when it's maybe 10-12°F warmer and even more humid. Kinda weird, I have to say...

Edit: I guess this is why it feels so tropical:

That would suggest a pressure of 952 mb right now.

Delta clearly won't be as strong as Laura, and possibly not a major hurricane upon landfall. Nevertheless, quite a severe blow to the Gulf Coast of Louisiana, especially following the devastation of Laura in August.

125 kts flight level winds measured (99 kts SFMR) during the latest pass.

Edit: and an Extrapolated Sfc. Pressure of 951.8 mbar.

Delta doesn't seem to want to have a solid inner core.

Yeah Baton Rouge area getting pounded most of the day with heavy rain, well away from the storm center. Could be bad news flood wise for that area if rain continues at that rate as the storm gets closer.

Yeh the problem we get is all the water that would normally be flowing out through the river tributaries get backed up due to surge, causing significant flooding further inland.

Look how much higher, and faster, the Comite river has risen, compared to what the forecast was.... And this is well before any storm surge

Cold pool appears to be not as deep as yesterday.
However, the thermal inversion is gone and looks more vertically stacked with the warm core.
