Re: ATL: DELTA - Hurricane - Discussion
Hi guys made the decision to not chase Delta... it appears it is going to become a "dirty" storm... one that starts to fall apart before landfall but still creates one heck of a flooding mess.
Those Cajun's out there are the salt of the earth. Right after Laura passed it was like watching ants rebuilding their nest. Those people were out there helping each other even before attending to their own needs. That says it all.
This forum once again was invaluable. I am impressed with how the pro mets and the amateurs on here all share their knowledge without making someone feel dumb for asking questions.
Keep up the good work.
Chuck

Although I have been a hurricane forecaster since 1980 that only means I've been wrong lots of times.

Decent wobble to the west by about 10-15 miles... Last thing Lake Charles wants to see. Overall NNE movement. Getting some decent bands here in Beaumont.

Re: ATL: DELTA - Hurricane - Discussion
Rain all morning and gusty winds here in the Beaumont area. Light rain, but steady and a strong breeze every now and then.
Local mets said the bulk of our weather will happen between 2pm and 8pm.

It might not of been wind, he might of been going to fast, that is actually a pretty sharp curve (might not look like it).

now that the weakening trend is starting and it's down to 115MPH. Probably looking at a landfall somewhere around 85 to 100 mph at landfall...

I manage tractor-trailers and it typically takes a stronger wind to blow one over, even if it's empty, than Lake Charles is currently reporting.
That said, I wouldn't have any of my guys in the Lake Charles area this morning.

Recon indicates winds closer to 85 kts (100 mph) than 115 mph. NHC is very generous with its winds. They don't want to indicate weakening prior to landfall. Have to keep coastal residents on high alert.

Delta is about as close to me in SW Houston as it's going to get. Looks like northerly wind 10-15 kts and light sprinkles. Was hoping for enough rain to dampen my lawn. Don't need the wind, though.

Yea, they just mentioned on the weather channel that 115 is probably on the high end....If it is closer to 100mph, probably looking at a landfall around 85mph, since it's not going to landfall until this evening.

Last 3 fixes west of forecast track.
Very last one, even more so.
Looks like dry air won out.
SW eyewall at 31% RH

Glad to see it weaken a bt early. Lake Charles will be hammered regardless but at least winds will be quite manageable.

Might be right. Radio had said due to wind, but driver could use that as excuse

I'm gonna need that dry air to completely destroy the core... Go team dry air!

I am in no way a professional. Take what I say with a grain of salt as I could be totally wrong. Please refer to the NHC, NWS, or SPC for official information.

Re: ATL: DELTA - Hurricane - Discussion
While this will cause some decent damage, this could have been much much worse. So very happy about the forecasted weakening trend.....And let's hope this is the last landfalling hurricane of the season

Just saw that. The cat is literally trying to crawl up his leg. He needs to rescue the cat. He seems very fond of him. Love it!!
And call it Delta!!
Or call it Cat 2 (especially if he has another cat).
