That 1mph doesn't really make a difference at this point. It's going to be bad.

Steve or anyone else in NOLA, did they ever do any evacuations? I never saw any but I could be wrong. I feel like most people didn't leave since it was only forecast to be a Cat 1

No. It needs to go the other way

True considering the landfall, I feel really bad for Steve

It’s all good. It’s definitely going to be a hairy few hours, but because it’s not slow moving and because it’s not going to cause that much rainfall flooding here, we are ready to go and kicking into party mode. Only thing I’m really worried about is tornadoes.

Rain is getting a little heavier, winds are slowly increasing but below everything but Marco so far. I’m kind of expecting the weather to go full on real quick when it does. I’ll try to post some updates as things happen.

Don't know if recon has enough time for a final pass with how quick Zeta is booking it to the coast.

Come on man. You whine and fight with more people than anyone on the forum. I try to refrain from being a blank-head, but you make it tough sometimes.

No fighting is allowed here, but how does it look like outside?

Biloxi winds are picking up. No rain yet. It looks like it's getting close on radar.

I kinda feel like this SW-NE pass will be it for recon... Hopefully they get back to the SE quad one more time though

Seeing a couple radial velocity bins just above 3000 meters at 142 mph (~123 kt) on the east eyewall.

3000 meters is pretty close to where 700 mb typically is.

There is a reason systems in the far Northern Atlantic can strengthen to major hurricane strength despite much cooler waters than what Zeta is over. Favorable trough/baroclinic forcing is the reason and this is the same reason for Zeta. This is going to have major impacts well inland.

Yeah, structurally speaking on radar it's kind of a mess on the south side. Baroclinic factors are really what's pushing the winds up.

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

This is going to be far more of a destructive inland wind event than it was looking like just a few hours ago. Here's hoping the weather equipment at Mt Cheaha keeps power because it's going to be a very rough night

Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.

"More apt to see this going on at 40°N in the North Atlantic." Like we just saw from Epsilon.

These Greek-named cyclones have been a whole different season in and of themselves.

There were some in the outlying areas but only a little of the city is outside the flood walls. Irish Bayou, West End and The Rigolets mostly are what’s left. I heard there were some voluntary mandatory orders, but I haven’t been paying attention to much local coverage beyond the NWS.

Picking up a bit more as time goes. Still sustained low teens and decent rain.

Good luck and stay safe out there. I just know this is going to be a lot worse than everyone expected
