TheStormExpert wrote:Eta is likely to rival Laura for strongest storm of the season. Hard to believe in a season like this we have not seen one single Cat.5 yet. Considering they’re were six in the last four seasons 2016-2019 alone.
Eta for sure dethrones Laura right now. I wouldn’t be shocked for the next Intermediate Advisory to reflect that.
One of the biggest reasons we are all here in this thread is because many suspect or believe this is Cat. 5 already or will become one by the time recon gets there.

Curious what SAB will do for their 2330Z fix. An OW eye has appeared and is embedded within CMG, surrounded by CDG

Isn’t that at operational airspeed?

T7.0 is what I would think. Clear out the eye more and the dreaded T8.0.

Both 1933 and 2005 had at least one Cat.5. It’s your turn 2020!

It's going to take an hour and 30 minutes for them to get down there. You might as well watch a movie while you're waiting

Just think how unbelievable it would be to have 2 T8.0 storms landfall within 3 days of each other...

Eta has really brought up memories on watching the first recon mission into Patricia's peak. We all knew it was going to be wild but not THAT intense.
Let's see if Eta lives up to the hype.

That reminds me, I should probably work on my chemistry lab report while I wait.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

Don't forget that in about 10 days Eta or Theta will be peaking once more.

I'm in a similar situation, I've got a paper on the Unabomber that needs revising and I've been procrastinating all day, both because of Eta and the election.

Do not take anything I say seriously as a form of meteorological prediction. I am not a meteorologist; I don't think being in law school translates to any special knowledge. I am just a somewhat bullish amateur watcher.

It feels like we're actually all on the flight waiting to get there...all we can do is sit down and read a book for now.
But once it gets close, it will be time to strap EVERYTHING down tight since it will be a very rough ride.

Recon might actually be perfect timing to catch the peak of this thing, if it was there earlier today it would have left by now.
