Symmetry of the CDO has markedly improved this afternoon. Looks a lot like Haiyan now.

I am only a tropical weather enthusiast. My predictions are not official and may or may not be backed by sound meteorological data. For official information, please refer to the NHC and NWS products.

Good god look at that eye just bouncing uncontrollably all over the place.

This thing is still continuing explosive intensification.

This is the most hyped/anxious/excited I’ve ever been for a recon pass by FAR. My heart rate is probably through the roof.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

An hour ago I would have waved off any thoughts of Wilma going down tonight. But this is quickly becoming one of the best satellite presentations of any hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic. I think Wilma's 2 mi wide eye might be what saves the record.

Yep, that's one metric that I can't see will ever be matched. With work, I'm having trouble keeping up with all updates and havn't heard what latest eye diameter was measured at. Eyeballing it myself, was gonna guess around 8 - 10 nm?

One of the most legendary recon passes in history coming up.

Hope the crew holds onto their butts.

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

Even an ERC does come to fruition, the CDO won't begin to really warm up until the inner eyewall start to contract and dissipate. Gilbert had a concentric eyewall at peak intensity and the ERC had already started at landfall on Yucatan but it was still 900mb/145kt at that point(second strongest landfall in the Atlantic behind Labor day storm)

I understand but I'm speaking in regards to ADT. If CI somehow does not catch up to the raws, can the raw numbers still be used in the top 10 list?

Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.

Godspeed to everyone onboard that recon flight—not sure how anyone can have the guts to ride a plane into this monster.

Eta is at least 50-80 miles farther south than the NHC track expected.

Of course not.

But that's sorta not fair lol. Dvorak constraints in this case (recon will confirm or not) can easily be severely underestimating the intensity.
