Broad low pressure area to form SW of Azores (Is Invest 97L)

#1 Postby CyclonicFury » Fri Nov 06, 2020 1:22 pm

This might be the system that makes 2020 the most active Atlantic hurricane season on record. I always find late season systems like this interesting, even though they rarely threaten land or get strong.

This is the “future Theta” I’ve mentioned on the models thread. With the exception of yesterday’s ICON run, none of the models get this above a TS, but perhaps it could surprise us.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

A cool name like Theta deserves to be on a cool storm.

Any chance this will be a cool storm? (Admittedly my definition of "cool" might be a bit looser than that of some others...)

I would love another Epsilon out of this (‘05 or ‘20, take your pick).

It looks like if this does form, it’ll only be a TS that lasts for a few days before weakening in the far eastern Atlantic. Unless it does something unexpected, this could end 2020’s unusual late season hurricane streak.

The global models seem to like future Theta a little more. They don’t show it getting stretched apart, and some like the Euro even get this to the Iberian Peninsula as a TC (or close to one).
