The strongest winds seem to be on that eyewall feature and it's still heading NW.

It is unnerving to look at the radar and see that northern eyewall heading right for my house.
So far so good...if this is the worst of it

Looking up and down my street, it's hard to recall a flooding event this significant since Wilma.

Yes, I'm not concerned for anything other than losing electricity. My street though, completely submerged. I can only recall that happening on a handful of occasions. Wilma, Frances, and Georges (98). Frances being the worst. Now, I've only spent half of the years since Wilma down here, I've been all around the state, so perhaps I missed some notable flooding events, but I have a hard time recalling anything else like the absolute drenching we have received today in my part of Broward County. I'm taking into account the fact that this event is not close to being over.

Wind has picked up here in Port St. Lucie and we've started having some power flickers every now and then. Went outside and you could see the sky lighting up blue from the transformers blowing. Currently the following is the outages being reported by FPL:

Indian River County - 1,550
St. Lucie County - 2,390
Martin County - 1,890
Palm Beach County - 16,340
Broward County - 23,610
Miami-Dade - 10,430

I had the same issue with Wilma Frances, Jeanne and a tropical storm I keep forgetting the name of in 2008 that people were driving boats on my street for days afterwards.

Lights just went off and on a few times here. Wind is sustained now at 40mph gusting maybe over 50mph

It's been a very long day, but thankful for that slug of dry air intrustion coming all the way from Texas that saved our necks, because it beaned Eta just as an eye was forming and promptly cut off it's moisture source.

We had so much rain today, hours and hours - TWC mentioned our rainfall total for the year (85 inches at FLL and because of the usual summer sea-breeze they are always about a foot less than inland locations like the area I live in), so while FLL has received 85 inches so far this year, in my area it's closer to 95 or even 100, so depending on location South Florida has received since January 1 from 7 to 9 feet of rain (that's the height of the average ceiling)...

These storms usually never make a sharp turn unless they nearly or actually STALL for a spell before doing so.

On Duck Key....winds have calmed quite a bit in the last 10 mins...almost calm now. Not much rain with the front side here.

That's because the center is going over Islamorada while Key Largo is over the northern eyewall like feature.
