With soon-to-be Iota, 2020 has gone further into the Greek alphabet than 2014 did with its actual name list!

Also, this storm isn't just another "I" name - it will legit be named after the letter "I". It would be the biggest twist ever if 2020 decided to pull off the "I" curse twice and have its most notable storm be "Iota", the 30th named storm of the season in November, but I wouldn't be surprised if it did...

Given that they were flying recon into Eta most of the time since then, I doubt that they did.

Oh the I - rony

I swear if I had read your post back in June, I would've bet the house on it that this would never happen!! I mean, it's like Sci-fi... but now I'd be homeless lol.

Chances are that Iota is going to be a monster and a very high-impact hurricane. November wants to leave us all speechless...

No, there isn't recon currently stationed in the islands.

I wished there was. . . They would be there MUCH faster

There's a base in St. Croix, but I don't know why it's not being used right now.

I am only a tropical weather enthusiast. My predictions are not official and may or may not be backed by sound meteorological data. For official information, please refer to the NHC and NWS products.

Just took a look at 2 direct hit ASCAT's & this system is already getting stronger very quickly.

The center formed further south than I expected. Unfortunately this will most likely impact the same areas of Central America that were already hammered by Eta. Not only is it likely to be a major++ storm, it also may stall which will cause catastrophic flooding.

The further south it goes, the higher intensity ceiling and impact potential Iota has. The further north it goes, the higher ACE ceiling it has, and a greater chance of sparing Eta-hit regions.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

A stall would not be welcome news for the region...

The outflow and banding is really impressive to look at. Really shows the low shear environment it has. Looks even more impressive than Eta did in it's formative stage

Not an meteorologist! Just someone who is interested in weather. Please refer to the NHC and local weather officials to make decisions.

I think we're looking at the mid-level center on satellite. It may not be vertically aligned. Any sign that the NHC will upgrade? I nudged my track northward and now h ave it tracking just inland across Honduras. TVCN now misses Honduras and takes it into Belize next Tuesday. NHC will nudge their track north, too, but not to the TVCN on one run.

Best track is up to 35kts so I think they'll upgrade soon

Iota is rapidly starting to organize.

Very powerful hurricane in the making.

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

What does that mean? 31/Iota developing a eye feature?

The upper level anticyclone is not far away from this. . .
