I don't really know how to put into words what we're seeing with Iota tonight, but I think this picture just sums everything up.

EDIT: Iconic 2000th post for me.

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

Category 4 confirmed by recon. Likely 140-145mph now and deepening rapidly.

If current trends continue this will go below 920mb with winds near 155-160mph. Very good chance this becomes our first legit Category 5 of 2020...before post-analysis of course.

Eta probably got there first.

This is ironically the exact opposite of Eta.

Eta’s satellite and IR presentation got our meteorological pants soaked and the Rare recon we got showed us up...

Now recon that has been consistent has data from Iota that this time are becoming a fever dream...

That extrap 931.3mb looks to be associated w/ an eyewall mesovortex based on the pressure trace, but the consistent 935mb found in the light wind center suggests a (still impressive) drop of 8-9mb/hr.

CDO has really expanded tonight, it's taking on the classical RI buzz-saw effect typical of a September/October system.

This is reminiscent of Lenny in 1999, almost 21 years to the date (and also during a strong La Nina peak).

The other S2K users who are all sleeping right now are going to be stunned at the pressure drop when they wake up in the morning. That's a massive drop!

Since recon did their 2 passes, they may be finishing up. Butttt the next one should depart in less than an hour, about 1:15 CDT!

Seriously contemplating just pulling an all-nighter until it arrives.

Let's hope we don't see a repeat of the recon issues. They've been doing great with Iota so far!

This is absolutely absurd, I'm going to be staying up doing homework anyway, but it will be hard not to be distracted. Doubt I'll make it to the next recon pass sadly.

Sub-910 seems possible with the crazy deepening rate that is occurring. Definitely seems like Iota is going for a spot on the Top 10 ATL list though.

Storms brought to you by the letter I are just vicious.

Well, 935mb is still an impressive round of a pressure drop in between the two passes. Unreal.

The new VDM comments that there is intense lightning in all quadrants. I'm sure that's a big telltale sign of a very rapidly intensifying storm.

For good reason!
