If it's not, then 2016's Hurricane Matthew was almost certainly not a Category 5 and should be downgraded re-analysis.

A westward moving hurricane will not have the strongest winds in the SE quadrant.

I’ll take it, but I’m not sure where the 921mb comes from given the extrapolation of 913

And it's official (at least until the advisory): Iota has become a Category 5 hurricane.

Finally, the most Atlantic hurricane season on record has produced a cat 5. In mid-November.

Just .2° shy of Matthew's southernmost Cat 5 record, and also the latest Cat 5 in the year!

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

The good thing with this recon mission is that it looks like is going for a third pass unlike the past few missions.

Whatever is going on with the eyewall seems to be nearing completion. A larger eye maybe clearing out?

I just realized that in the weirdest way possible 2020 continues the rule that 'i' storms are one of the strongest of the season. But I don't think people would've expected it to be Iota beforehand instead of Isaias.

No, this is the first forecast point. So far, it is still a 135kt Cat 4 but it appears the NHC will forecast a 160mph point in their next advisory. Note the "OFCL" instead of "BEST", meaning it is not best track but official NHC forecast

This post was probably an opinion of mine, and in no way is official. Please refer to http://www.hurricanes.gov for official tropical analysis and advisories.
