There's something about this week in winter weather history. Believe this is the same week as the foot of snow in 2010 in DFW

It's either the first two to three weeks of February or the last two weeks of December where Texas gets whacked by the historic stuff or just the prolonged cold events.

It’s not snow grains in Sherman anymore, legitimate flakes. I’ll ask again, how is this possible?

I had several large tree limbs in backyard succumb to weight of ice yesterday, within a 2 hour period. One medium size one fell on edge of roof, but rolled off onto ground. They literally fell while I was walking out there! Some neighbors also dealing with same thing, and parking their trucks in street away from trees in their driveway. I just got done moving them to a location of yard with gravel (not grass) to saw up later, weather permitting. They were heavy!

Also wrapped outside spigots with towels (exposed portions), overlaid with bubble wrap and duct tape, leaving end of spigot open for dripping. They are on outside wall of house, one on north side which gets frozen easily.

I never thought I would say this, but I'm already tired of Winter weather (based on yesterday), and trying to survive the next week.

It can snow in an Arctic air mass with very little moisture and lift often localized event, not even seen on radar. We've had many posters in Oklahoma and parts of North Texas areas experience this the past couple of days. Likely happening very low to the ground.

Via NWS Fort Worth

We're not kidding... Today will be the last good day to PREPARE before several days of wintry precipitation, DANGEROUS COLD TEMPS, and hazardous travel conditions. It goes downhill Saturday night. Here's a few reminders! #GetReady North & Central TX.

ICON is very close to the NAM except mostly all snow. If you consider profiles looks like a widespread 4-8" event locally more.

Bitterly cold Tuesday morning.

My paid service is now showing less than 1/8" icing for the Houston area, with the caveat that the forecast can obviously change. Less ice is great, 1/8" would be crazy on roads still, but not result in mass power outages. I really hope this forecast holds.

Austin to Texarkana is snow too quite a bit also.

San Antonio mixes and goes to snow.

Houston is freezing rain then sleet storm.

A couple tenths of freezing rain... 1"-2" of sleet... and 3"-5" of snow close to my area would be pretty devastating as far as being able to do any kind of travel for the rest of the week... Not to mention potential power outages.

And that's just the first major storm!

How about the possible lake effect snow for those in the area South of Texoma?

Definitely snow enhanced can happen too! Just wild things going on. I'm sure the Lake temperatures are warm compared to the air temps. The bigger the difference more support it has to occur.

RGEM is coming around from being relatively dry for the past few days. This means the 12z run Canadian is likely to flip to more snow for V-day Storm.

There are cloud microphysics processes that allow for snow formation in the lower cloud layers. The 12z FWD sounding appears to show a profile that could be supportive of these processes. Also, there is a s/w moving through S. Texas this morning that might be providing some lift. The main storms associated with this s/w are well out in the Gulf, were the best combo of lift and moisture are located. FWD forecast partly sunny skies across N. Texas today but clouds look pretty socked in and lift from the next s/w is already moving into far West Texas.

There's going to be major damage done to tropical & subtropical plants in the Houston area if the GFS's and Euro's forecasted lows in the low to mid teens for Houston on Tuesday morning come to fruition. Incredible that those temps could be close or tie the record set during the 1895 Arctic blast.

Yeah, it's pretty sad honestly because this area has some beautiful tropical foliage. I almost planted a jacaranda tree seed a few years ago but was surprised that we weren't considered a true tropical region. They are popular in Los Angeles because it's considered truly tropical (no real frost issues).

Yep, it's not backing down and the other models are playing catch up...probably should expect NWS offices to begin raising totals as well. This continues to trend towards the high end, something extremely uncommon around here!
