FYI the snow hole is over eastern Oklahoma.

Um...That's a lot of snow in SE Texas if that were to verify. It shows lows approaching 0 on Tuesday morning for my area. The all time recorded record low for Beaumont is 10 degrees in 1906. Starting to think there is going to be a new record after Tuesday.

And what Brent said. These temps you can't even draw up in fantasy la la land.

Who in their right minds would ever believe anything from 1899 gets broken. That's the untouchable year you only talk about.

I mean it was one thing when it was 5-7 days out but to see it still there now :double: :double:

Feels pretty good not to have to chase this time, eh?

Lol gotta be honest while I'm feeling confident and have no target like the previous times I'm not closing the door on anything if we get dry slotted or something    you know lately something has always gone wrong here

Brent, I’m so rooting for you dude! You’ve stuck it through this past snow drought and I’m extremely optimistic this storm will finally give you snow on your doorstep. You deserve it!

For one event, the 78-79 ice storm was the worst. Now power for almost a week. I may change my mind as I neglected to drain my sprinkler system before this stretch began.

09-10 was pretty good but it never seemed to break any kind of real cold records. 77-78 is legendary. 1963-1964 is another top dog, similar to 09-10 except with the severe cold.

63-64’ is one I look at and wish I had been around for.

I'm still cracking up at that dry slot over the metro  :spam:

What's also interesting is seeing the forecasts here favoring the higher amounts north not south

Yea, I'm not buying the higher totals to the South of North Texas.

What about pools? We have an older 1990's pool, right now I have the pump running 24/7 and the pump and equipment is in a completely sheltered area almost like a room between our fence and detached garage. Should it be ok?

Here’s a new one..

The snow, initially believed to be lake-effect snow, was actually generated by airplanes taking off and landing at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.

MAINTAIN PROPER WATER LEVEL IN YOUR POOL
Your water should be maintained at the center of the tile (vertically) or halfway up the skimmer opening. This is the number one cause of freeze
damage on pools. If the pump loses prime, then the water stops moving in the equipment and everything can freeze. The evaporation rate increases as the temperature decreases. The evaporation rate is directly correlated to the temp differential between the pool water and the air.

MAKE SURE YOUR POOL IS RUNNING IN FREEZING WEATHER
Freeze protection can fail. Make sure all your pumps come on (except your pool sweep pump) when the weather drops below freezing. On variable
speed pumps, they will cycle on and off if you are depending on the freeze protection on the pump. If the temp gets really low (below 15) then turn the pump on manually and let it run 24/7 at a speed of at least 2000 RPM. If you see your flow diminished, your filter might need to be backwashed. If you backwash, make sure your backwash line is not blocked by ice or it could blow up the filter.
Normally, keeping the pump running should keep you out of danger, but this is an extreme freeze that we have not seen in DFW in many years. A tarp will keep the wind from supercooling your equipment and will preserve a little ground heat.

Very light frozen precipitation in E Plano and the power has been out and hour, with an estimated repair time of 5:00AM.

Well prepared but, hoo boy, here it goes.

So that's where the tiny snow grains were coming from earlier. Was hanging out in the pool with the wife about an hour ago sipping on some Tito's and noticed the tiny snow grains hitting.

If the inversion can stay below freezing totals will ramp up dramatically in NE TX which is why I am thinking NE TX sees 12-20+" this week. If not NE TX is looking at 6-12" with 1-2" of sleet. in between storms I could see some one in NE TX get down to below -5. One thing to remember is there will likely be another very cold morning Friday with temps in the 5-15 range. NE TX may finally get above freezing by Saturday. FYI my definition of NE TX is east of DFW and north of I-20.
