It's gonna be just awful in the Houston area. Palmocide 2021.

Trying to decide what to do about our birds of paradise — do we cut them back and cover? Seems difficult and/or silly to cover them fully. But is it even worth the effort? What about azaleas and hawthorns? Agapanthus and hibiscus? Bah.

I would cut them back and cover them but honestly, they are probably toast. If we get to single digits, the ground will freeze the roots/rhizomes too. I have moved what I can to the garage and I'm resigned to lose my bedded tropicals with this one. I had just planted hibiscus, bird of paradise, ti plants, plumeria, ginger, agapanthus, etc. The usual assortment. Probably all toast after next week.

We planted ours a couple years ago and everything was finally maturing. Also have a huge philodendron. Man this sucks. We better get snow out of this ...

If the Euro and GFS are correct...winds gust could be approaching blizzard criteria for a few hours while the snow is still falling around San Antonio overnight Sunday into early Monday morning.

12z ICON trended snowier across south central/southeast TX as well. Several models continue to show a heavy snow band moving east from the Hill Country and across SA/Austin Sunday night.

30 Degrees on the Far Westside of San Antonio as I’m writing this. Patchy Freezing Drizzle is the flavor of the day. Unofficial reports by coworkers of black ice on the Far Northside of San Antonio (past Loop 1604).

If you just have to get out use extreme caution in the DFW area. I made a 2 mile trip to the neighborhood Walmart for a few additional items and it's slicker than owl sh#t. Roads completely glazed over in Arlington.

Moved the car out of the garage and on to the street. I live on a steep hill and this was probably the last day I would have a chance to move it for a week. For emergency use only, of course. Neighborhood streets have a glaze.

Not much going on in east Texas (Gilmer). We are at about 29 right now, probably warmest it has been in last 48 hours. Any new thoughts on the next couple of days for Northeast Texas? I was thinking a lot of snow, but maybe it seems to be slowing down a bit for this area??

My Grandmother remembered living in Arlington back in the 1990s, when there was Ice Storms, DFW becomes a literal Ice Rink . . .

Moral of the story? May be colder than advertised...

@BigJoeBastardi — Modeling is even INITIALIZED too warm around DFW. What in the wide wide world of sports ( and weather) is going on here. If you cant get the initial conditions right, how do you get the future right.

25 and snow grains in Lindale. Black ice all over from drizzle overnight. Expecting a good amount of snow tomorrow night and Monday morning. Gilmer may be stuck in sleet longer cutting snow totals. The mid week storm could dump in E TX but there is a risk of it being more mixed south of a Tyler to Texarkana line. The northwestern part of East Texas could get well over a foot this week. I am forecasting a low of -4 for The and 8 for Fri morning.

QPF max band NW and SE of DFW with a big drop off in between, the drop off varies by model but showing up pretty much across all models now.
