NWS-Brownsville has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the entire area

Now, 100% of Texas is under a Winter Storm Warning

Mark this date down, the day the ENTIRE state of Texas was COMPLETELY under a Winter Storm Warning . . .

Freezing rain started here. 23 degrees, I'm sure we will run through the precip types pretty quickly

I know this is the texas winter weather forum but just looked at the NWS home page and have never seen such a vast area of the south covered with winter storm warnings, pretty unreal. Speaking of unreal us over here in the Baton Rouge and surrounding areas of SELA are now included in the winter storm warnings with at least half an inch of freezing rain predicted for tomorrow. Some of the newer run high resolution models show the potential for upwards of 3/4 to 1 inch of freezing rain. Even has thunder mentioned in our forecast during the event.

It is mostly Texas afterall, but Oklahoma & Louisiana can be included here.

Stay safe! Make sure you are prepped for power outages and being stuck inside for a period of time.

Huge flakes right now next to the airport. The grass is halfway gone.

This may be the last band for awhile until the western shield moves in but precip keeps building to the southwest.

I cannot say that I have EVER witnessed such a large, vigorous low pressure system with the perfect temperatures and all of the other dynamics in place (IE; very cold to freezing ground temperatures) in my 50+ years on this planet for what is about to unfold in the South! It really is a historical event that will be recorded and talked about as a benchmark weather event. The shear magnitude of coverage of land mass is simply incomprehensible.

Looks like mostly sleet here so far IMBY. The 00z 3k NAM looks like it was one of the drier of the 00z hi-res models with a lot of the various WRFs looking better. 06z 3k NAM came in with a bit more moisture for DFW and moves the mega band a bit closer, looks like someone in that SW to NE oriented band will jackpot.

I might be one of those!

It seems like that every time when there is a storm like this, the snowbands get stronger while coming in, peak over me, & then weaken after leaving my area . . . (And speaking of which, there is one that is about to move on top of me, currently still getting stronger)

Already 1-2 inches of snow has fallen.

That’s definitely helping us up in Sherman. What Dallas is getting seems to be dissipating as it heads toward the Red River.

Yes, it's the first wave of snow, the next wave comes in between 10 AM & 2 PM.

However, the 2nd wave may merge with the first wave, this had a LOT more snow then expected & keeps backbuilding

Not sure where you are located but here in DFW expect off and on snow for the next few hours then later this afternoon into this evening is when the heavy snow and almost blizzard type conditions will be here. And it is all part of the same system. The meat of it is still out west gathering steam!!!
