Oh wow, I got lucky out in SE Austin, no ice on the trees at all. 24.3 degrees though. This better be sleet or snow thats coming.
I actually went out this morning to meet someone for a brunch date downtown, yes I know crazy. Slid briefly getting out of the neighborhood. That was scary. Went slow the whole time roads were wet. Of course I get there and she texts me that she slid in her neighborhood and cancels. lol oh well. I made it back home safely, but getting back into neighborhood slid again. So yeah, don't try, its the neighborhood streets that will get you first.

EWX lowered tonights forecast low for mabry to 8; still 5 tomorrow night.

00Z models below. None is showing significant freezing rain here in Harris County (Houston). It's north and south of us? GFS has 6-7" snow, Euro has 1-2". Model consensus is that Houston will reach 5-8F on Tuesday. All-time record is 5F. What I don't buy is the warm-up to above freezing the next day (Wednesday). With all that ice on the ground, I think the temperature won't climb above freezing. If that's the case, the stage is set for a significant ice storm across SE TX on Wednesday. Generator is ready to go. Lots of gas. Shutting off water this evening.

Good luck wxman57 with this historic Arctic event, I am surprised you haven't catch a plane and headed to FL knowing how much you hate the cold weather.

34 in Katy, TX right now. Had some light rain this morning. Liking the trends of the models showing more sleet and snow than freezing rain. However, this is SE Texas and we get curve balls during winter events. Wish we had a closer sounding

Greetings from Blanco County (just west of Austin)! Looking like the brunt of the storm is bound to hit us later on this evening and through the night. HRRR showing 3-8" for the area!

I’ve got 1” IMBY all snow. Rest of the forecast holds true, 4-6” is the target.

Closer to 6" . One of the rare snows where pavement has more accumulations than the grass. This constant light snow may not seem like much but it gets us a head start.

Lets see if we can nickle and dime another half inch before the main show.

Does anyone know where to get the snow obs for the airport? Surely they must have an inch by now.

It’s 13 and the snow has stopped for now (flurries) in Denison. Streets are covered and we’ve got an inch plus on the ground. Memorable Valentine’s Day for sure.

Abilene up through the Falls looks to be getting slammed. The HRRR keeps wanting to kill that band off as it moves east but really seems to be struggling with it right now. It shows snow surging up from the south later on into DFW but kills the band to the west off as it moves through DFW. Radar trends seem to look good, if that band out west moves through DFW and then snow surges up from the south, we would probably be looking at the higher end of forecast ranges verifying.

HRRR has been struggling with the lighter reflectivity which is also putting down snow. If you go back and look at earlier runs, it's initiation for the early batch was poor.
