Looks pretty good. NWS seems to be going 3 - 6" for areas north of 30 and west of 75 based on grid point forecast.

The NAM starts as snow for I-20 and North and given this is trending colder than prior runs.

It and the HRRR are also pulling that initial precip shield quite a bit further south. Huge bump up on qpf on the 12k

This is going to be something many will reference as the cold wave for this generation in Texas. I know it seems a bit dramatic but in the coming days the stories will only continue to be told by folks trying to survive.

Like during hurricanes, unfortunately, there isn't much news or information from those without power and unable to post online. We will indeed be hearing more to come in the coming days. I have seen a lot of out there already with folks out of power and hunkered-down for the night as best as they can.

My dad up in Allen is having power off-and-on about every 30 minutes.

Just devastating, you're right about the part we can't hear or see it in real time sometimes. I'm not sure how accurate the link is below and I know it's also rolling and not just all dark but still. Nearly some entire counties go out. I know we have many usual members who haven't posted and are going through it.

Already seeing reports of dead speckled trout washing up on the causeway between Port Aransas and Aransas Pass.

And cold stunned sea trutles on the beaches on Padre Island.

Paying your electricity bill and still having your power intentionally cutoff for approximately 17.5 out of 19 hours so far is hell. Temps inside houses and apartments are already in the 40s. What's the record low temp for indoors?

Here in San Antonio, we went 13 hours without power today. My mom still has no power and is going on 20 hours without power. No rolling blackouts and we are in the city.

Rough stories from the family staying here overnight. Their neighborhood has been without power for 15 hours! Sure they will have frozen pipes. Also they said they have a hot tub that will be a goner probably.

Was also 3 degrees for a little while at North Texas Regional Airport. Has bumped up to 4 again. Cold night and much more ahead.

We’re on our third rolling blackout of the day, this one almost 5 hours and counting. Our wood burning stove helps, but the house is still cool. Can’t imagine the experiences of those with no source of heat tonight. :(
:cold:

EDIT: Just dropped to 2 degrees at NTRA.

Apparently the entire city of Abilene only has a few hours worth of treated water. This seems like a disaster movie.

This is true. Apparently the electric grid serving the water plant is out. We have not had water since about 8pm and have to boil any we were able to get before it shut off completely. We did get an Emergency Comm notice about 20 minutes prior.
Thankfully the residential power seems ok .... so far.

Sounds like my neighborhood? They live in Ponder?

We just got power again. It's been over 30min so fingers crossed.

So here's an update from one of us who's right in the middle of it.

Let me tell you this sucks. I've got a wife, and two sons 5 and 3. We cut water and drained the pipes because the power had been out since 3 AM this morning. Trying to avoid busted pipes. We got our fridge and freezer food outside to avoid it going bad. Some the fridge food is now frozen.

House inside temp was 48 when the heat just kicked on. We briefly had power around 6:30 ish for like 20min. We've been getting in our minivan to warm up, drive around the neighborhood and charge our electronics. We have unlimited 5G cell data with 15GB hotspots for both phones so we can connect our kids tablets and my laptop without issue. I have a TV/FM tuner for the laptop that runs over USB so we can watch TV live if need be.

I stocked up on Propane, food and bottle water. Bought a small indoor safe Mr Heater that runs on Propane to use during the day or to help warm up.

I've got family down towards Dallas that has power on and off so we opted to stay since we have what we need and have plenty of camping gear to stay warm when sleeping.

I'm so done with Winter. Seriously. I'm done. This will emotionally and financially ruin people and perhaps kill people. Depending on any damage to my home I'm now maybe looking at 2 deductibles as I was in the process of getting my roof approved from wind damage from a few weeks ago.

While I appreciate the passion on this site and totally understand it, I think we need to be mindful there are fellow humans hurting and scared right now.

Apologies for the rant but it's been a day. Not directed at anyone as I know we don't control the weather.

Back to bed, surprisingly the power is still on, been 45min.

Denton hit -1 at 11:58 (possibly earlier but that’s when I saw it) so they will have two below zero days in 2021

Same boat as Hockey (really close neighbors now that I saw his videos, anyways...). Basically had power for 30 mins this evening until about an hour ago.

The house is back up to 58 after sitting at 49 when power kicked on. Luckily so far all inside faucets are still running.

Been following the weather trends for storm #2 and I’m glad the heaviest is north of here. The cold day has been rough.

Also using the outdoor grill in 10 degree weather to heat food was an experience for sure.

Same on cooking. I've got camping stoves so perhaps a bit easier?

Quite the adventure our little town is having.

How's your house holding up?

Family in Midlothian just got power back after not having it since four in the morning!

Hopefully others are getting it back before the long cold night sets in even more.

So far I think pretty well, it stayed warmer inside than I expected. Water is still flowing so that’s good. Heater is running almost to 60 again.

The wife has been pretty comfortable all day, so can’t complain I suppose.
