We got up to 34 degrees here in NW Houston! Enough to remove the ice from trees and any lines. At least we get a fresh restart for tonight.

In Houston proper, do we still need to be worried about pipes busting? With the temp right now around 32, and the low forecasted for 28 tonight, are we moving past the timeframe where we are at risk for pipes busting?

Still worry about it because the ground temperature will easily dip below freezing for a couple more days, once the ground temperature is no longer at risk for freezing up for a few hours, there is no longer a worry about freezing & busting pipes.

Good news, I finally have power restored after 32 straight hrs of it being off (went out 6am Monday) Was up @ 4am putting wood in the fireplace then sit in car for an hour to charge phone. When I went out I took my digital thermometer and it read -3 on the front porch. Took car a little bit to turn over but it did in that cold.

Now about tonight's system, I'm thinking about 3" across DFW with higher amounts to the north of Denton.

DFW has dropped down to 17F with a SE wind. Snow storms with a SE wind? 2010? Not saying we get that much but :cold:.

So it looks like high temp today is 18F. That is also a record.

Are you sticking with the NWS guess of 1-3 for At the airport?

Edit: prediction, not guess.

There wouldn’t be a panic if people had their power to stay warm. And so what if it does cause a panic? If you’ve got to manipulate the truth so that panic doesn’t ensue, then there’s something inherently wrong with that.

Give people the damn facts so at least they can make preparations themselves, instead of relying on the ineptitude of politicians and officials lining their pockets, who end up putting those people’s lives at risk.

No excuse in the world not to have the infrastructure to handle a freaking cold snap. The entire north handles it all winter long. This isn’t some 3rd world nation.

I think their forecast is good. But from about early hours tomorrow morning there's going to be some back-building of 1"/hr rates from about the metroplex on east/northeast. If that materializes then 3-6" for some is not out of the question.

In our house we were prepared for this epic winter wonderland mainly because of the great minds here that are kind enough to share their knowledge. I feel horrible for those without power that are struggling to stay warm while we are playing and having a great time.

NWS graphics are head-spinning. They are increasing amounts again to 2-3 inches for my area from under an inch. Also extending the end time in their graphic to tomorrow afternoon/evening.

Yeah the bigger totals near the Red River earlier have dipped down south slightly.

Thought I'd post this. The GFS a week out. Nat Gas traders that took this seriously made some coin.
