2 inch boot soles plus your ankle = about 6 inches. Are you using the typical man measuring system? Use a ruler for proper measurements.

It was almost impossible to move in some areas! The 16-18 inches area was farther away from my house & the snow got up to the upper half of my lower leg in that area, most of the area in my property is 6-8 inches of drifted snow . . .

Well this is probably the last major snowstorm for Texas this year. Spring is coming and so is Wxman57s favorite time... Not winter.

I read somewhere where ice accumulation is not linear on round thin surfaces like wires and tree branches, so that as the surface area increases due to ice accumulation then there is more area for the freezing rain to attach to so ice accumulation increases at a non-linear rate. I kinda witnessed that happen before on my car antennas driving through freezing drizzle in the panhandle before.

It is terrible. I am stuck right at 26 degrees...I don't see getting above freezing today and maybe not tomorrow. No water. Ice is much worse after last night. I am blessed to have power (Pedernales), but keeping a small fire going in the fireplace in case that does not last since we have above ground lines. I can hear trees breaking out in the wooded areas that surround us. It is going to be a massive cleanup. Hope everyone has sharpened chains on the chainsaws.... :(

HRRR keeps sleet/snow in my area of ETX until 00z or so tonight, looks like it keeps back building.

GFS says more precip to develop and fall overnight, nothing major.

NAM 3km says precip exits soon and the precip in the hill country never makes it here.

KATT hasn't reported all day? And with the power issues, vast majority of "All Networks" sites in austin aren't showing up on the NWS map.

Heavy sleet and freezing rain now coming down in Longview. The back side of the precip is not moving much at all. Temperature is 24F. Not good...

So the cold snap in 1983 lasted 295 hours. This one could last 232 hours or so. Does anyone know how the coldness (the freezing-degree hours of this event) compares to the one in 1983?

For the 1st time? Interesting as you and I are both on Farmer's Electric. We've had rolling blackouts since Sunday night. But I just read on Farmer's website that they are spreading the power outage love around to more customers. Maybe this includes you. Welcome to the party!

Thank you for these! I think 1989, 1899, and Jan 1949 outbreaks might be more comparable in terms of duration as well as low temps for DFW. If you account for snow 1949 is pretty close.

GEFS has the cold up north come March 1. It is currently bleeding it off into the NE.

Don't give up on some sneaky snow over the next 48 hrs. I can think of at least 3 times since 2011 that we got snow when there was no snow in the forecast. Never give up when cold air is in place and we have an active Pacific.

Have had the rolling blackout since it started in north dallas. Was like one hour on, six off for a while. Got down to about 40 in the house on -2 night. A few hours of power in a row this morning thanksfully. My cat does not like the lack of power and will probably be joining wxbeezlebubman's team heat wave. :cold:
