Re: Texas Winter 2020-2021
Made it down to 9 overnight at NTRA. While we didn’t get nearly as much snow here in Denison as others did (6” total), my yard is still totally covered and the street in front of my house is still totally snowpacked.
And that’s 5 1/2 days after the first flake fell and 2 days of total sunshine. Relentless cold for North Texas.
Also had my two recent college grad sons home for this. It was interesting to ride this out with them (no power, being cold, keeping the wood burning stove going through the night, playing card games in the light of an LED lantern, etc.).
Definitely a few memorable “Snow Days” in my house that will live for a longtime in our family lore.

Our water came back overnight. Hopefully others like Portastorm got theirs too! Was so happy when electric came back mostly so the neighbor with the generator could turn it off. We could smell the exhaust in our living room where we were camping out since it was the warmest (relatively) room in the house. We had to retreat upstairs where is was much colder but safer.

Well absolutely no one was expecting THIS 2 months ago. Yall pleaded for a storm of the century. Wxman57 warned us all of our grave mistake. Careful of what you wish for; it just might become true.

Ahh. The sun is out this morning and maybe we'll make it to 50 today!
Wxman 57 TIME TO TURN ON THE TORCH!
Seriously stuff is beginning to turn that awful brown around here and we better hope we have a wet spring or at least intervals of rain because if we continue the trend we had this winter of a dry weather (this last week not withstanding), this state is going to be a huge tinderbox for wildfire. A lot of new developments have been built away from readily available fire fighting equipment (see the Austin/San Antonio areas in the Hill Country) and we could have some California style fires if things don't green up in the spring and continue into the summer.

I am happy you got your water and electricity back and did so safely! Unfortunately I am now Day 3 with no water. I've probably got another 24 hours of drinkable water and retention pond toilet flush water. After that I will need to take some action. I know way too many people are in worse situations than mine, but I will concede that I'm pretty damn miserable right now with no water for 72 hours.

Oh no! If you have a Sams Club or Costco membership they keep the most water in stock. Hope your water comes back today

The drive on the side roads this morning was probably the worst for me all week. The snow was easy, but this melted ice frozen stuff..yuck.

Some insane cold appearing in Northern Canada. Delivery pattern may not be as great as the past two weeks but look at Greenland, wasn't there before..

Is that coming to Texas? All the way to the coast? Maybe I should leave the blankets hanging on the windows a little longer.

I haven't watched The Weather Channel in over 20 years, but Mike Seidel was in Texarkana on Wednesday to cover the snow storm.

Nice little ridge popping into AK too. I remember the March 20th 2010 storm that said "flurries" and while we were in Collin we got 6-9".

It appears today will actually get above freezing for a little while. That will be roughly 270 hours of straight below freezing temps with a -10.2 and a -8.5 thrown in. Pretty impressive cold snap.

Ok, even if we get a much milder version of what we've just endured with this. Can it be safe to say CPC seasonal outlooks should be relegated to junk status from here on out?

No water here yet and I learned early a friend who had some water pressure lastnight doesn't have any now.

Regardless of how much rain we get this spring, what is dead now will still be dead and dried out come summer. We are talking about billions of tons of dead flora so yes, we need to prepare for dangerous and devastating wildfires this year.
