No water here yet and I learned early a friend who had some water pressure lastnight doesn't have any now.
Oh no! I hope you get it back soon!

This may be something everyone already knows, but your hot water heater still has good water in it. If it isn't frozen. Stay warm!!

I am happy you got your water and electricity back and did so safely! Unfortunately I am now Day 3 with no water. I've probably got another 24 hours of drinkable water and retention pond toilet flush water. After that I will need to take some action. I know way too many people are in worse situations than mine, but I will concede that I'm pretty damn miserable right now with no water for 72 hours.

And that’s 5 1/2 days after the first flake fell and 2 days of total sunshine. Relentless cold for North Texas.
Also had my two recent college grad sons home for this. It was interesting to ride this out with them (no power, being cold, keeping the wood burning stove going through the night, playing card games in the light of an LED lantern, etc.).
Definitely a few memorable “Snow Days” in my house that will live for a longtime in our family lore.
Enduring hardships like these together as a family are often some of the most cherished memories we have when we get older and look back. I'm happy you were able to make the best of it and that you got through it!
I feel sympathetic for any kids whose parents deprived them of these character-building experiences and sent them to Cancun for the week

I am not a meteorologist, and any posts made by me are not official forecasts or to be interpreted as being intelligent. These posts are just my opinions and are probably silly opinions.

Who's ready for another round? Not the extreme cold but some major snow. One more time before it heats up for a long stretch of miserable humidity. Am I crazy? Yes.

I’m sure most parents would rather have their children endure a cold home without electricity and water. How dare anyone that would rather them be safe and warm.

At least one or two more chances would be nice. I think we are going to have a rocking spring severe season.

I think you're right. I remember when I lived up in DFW in the '89 outbreak and some other notable outbreaks in that time period, and we had very active spring storm seasons.

I've been seeing a lot of comparisons to 2011 lately(this cold was even originally on that level) let's hope it's not that rocking

One thing you have to wonder when comparing records against events like 1899 is also some of the anecdotal evidence. Back in 1899, portions of Galveston Bay froze over. Ice jams were reported on the Mississippi River down to New Orleans.
This event was close on paper, but nowhere near anything like those accounts. Just an observation.

Still a ton up here. Probably 7-9” left on the ground. For a light powdery snow it sure has staying power.

Well, I hope it’s not like 2011 verboten. The drought was epic. The tornadoes were worse.

Pretty funny and neat little clip here from the day after the "blizzard"...
By the way, I must warn everyone that the song played in the video does have some cussing so be aware of that before watching.

Also anecdotal but just a hunch, I have read articles of such water systems freezing/ice floes in the early 1900s and 1930s as well with much less cold. Damming the rivers prevents ice from flowing freely down from the North, with the numerous levees and locks. I suspect also there is warming of the waterways due to human activity since then. Much harder to freeze nowadays.
