Claudette looks better now, 20 hours after landfall, than it ever did over water.

Re: ATL: CLAUDETTE - Tropical Depression - Discussion
Yeah not gonna lie this pretty weird to see lol
Convection is firing all over west-central AL on the north side of the center and pressures have fallen at least 3-4mb since landfall; in fact the center seems to have caught up with, and now lies just south of, very deep vigorous convection in the Tuscaloosa area.
This is causing flooding and mudslides in the Tuscaloosa-Birmingham corridor, and you can kinda see a central dense overcast type rainfall shield setting up. I'm near Jasper and we've had moderate rain all day, and now steady sustained winds of 15-20 at times. Pretty impressive for the weakest side of an inland depression.

Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.

Yeah I agree this definitely looks more name-worthy than it did over water lol
That's not something you see very often.
Hope we don't see any fatalities with this one

I am in no way a professional. Take what I say with a grain of salt as I could be totally wrong. Please refer to the NHC, NWS, or SPC for official information.

Normally I don't like when they get named at around landfall, but this one has become rather intriguing.

Has the brown ocean effect had any bearing on holding Claudette together overland or has it all been baroclinic forcing?

I would assume it's baroclinic forcing but I'm not an expert on that.

It looks to me like the center of rotation has reformed SE of where it was initially. You can see it pretty clearly on ATL radar.

Got a news alert this morning that 10 people, most of them children, died in a car wreck in Alabama which was drenched in rain...Probably from Claudette.

*I* hope this isn't a sign of things to come.
We were forced to move this year....into a "less than sturdy" structure that I woudln't stay in for a hurricane....and I'm nervous about that.
NEVER lived in a structure i woudln't stay in for a hurricane....and I've lived in "hurricane country" the majority of my life.

Re: ATL: CLAUDETTE - Tropical Depression - Discussion
Claudette is forecast to go over the Gulf Stream and have some help from baroclinic forcing. I have to wonder if it could become stronger than expected while over the Gulf Stream like Bill did. Recon is going out tomorrow (I think), so we’ll be able to know for certain.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

Looks decent over central SC
The circulation has become somewhat elongated, but convection as the system approaches water will help consolidate things further.

Land, water...doesn't seem to make a difference to this little lady. It's all good.
