The Durst Verdict

#1 Postby GalvestonDuck » Thu Nov 06, 2003 11:57 am

After almost six weeks of testimony, the jury is now deliberating in the murder case against Robert Durst.

Anyone care to offer an opinion or prediction of what the outcome will be?

I'm not sure if the national news guys are going to break in with it or not. I'm sure our local Hou/Galv area television and news radio stations will. They did for the Andrea Yates case and for the (crap, forgot her name) women who ran over her hubby.

If it comes in today, it might be late. But I imagine they might be deliberating until tomorrow.

I suspect it will be guilty- strictly knowing of the dismemberment and none of the other details. It would take an unusual jury to let him walk on self defense after the mutilation of the body and without the head ever having been found.

I just read earlier today that the prosecution tried to say that Durst retrieved the head from the bay and then dumped it somewhere along the way to New Orleans. Odd twist, if you ask me.

I'm not on the jury so I haven't heard all the evidence or testimonies. But based on what was the media reported was presented to the jury by the prosecution and not hearing anything to offer reasonable doubt, I'd find him guilty. One witness reported that she heard two shots. A forensics specialist said that the blood splatter showed that Black was down on the ground and shot from above. That doesn't sound like a gun struggle or self-defense to me.

I think it will either be guilty or insane. But, would you want someone like that out on the street if he does get off?

Linda -- Sorry, I can't remember if you said you work in civil court or criminal court.

Can a person be found not guilty by reason of insanity if the defense never offers that? In Durst's case, they argued not guilty because the act was committed in self-defense. But they didn't offer an NGRI argument. In John Hinckley, Jr.'s defense, they did fight for and won an NGRI verdict.

Anybody know?
