Wonder if that could have been a weak tornado. Lots of small circulations quickly forming and dissipating as they move onshore in that area

It’s so amazing to watch this storm literally trace the GA SC coasts, like it can see the outline. Wish I understood the science behind why these coastal storms do this.

Just came in from a walk - breeze & clouds slowly increasing, but really quite nice out now at SC/NC line. No rain here yet

- Charleston has been getting rocked hard recently.
- 9 straight hours of rain here in SAV including that one hour of unreal torrential rain and another period of heavy rain later. Street flooding was bad in flood prone areas. Lots of standing water in my yards. Over 4" and quite possibly over 5" of rain has fallen here. It has finally ended.
- Winds are still gusty to 30+ in non-thunderstorm related winds as Elsa is passing by at her closest to our NW.
- 11K power outages just in this area from Elsa.

Looking quite healthy for being overland. May be starting it’s extratropical transition early.

Can clearly see the llc on visible, right there in the center of SC. It appears elongated though, with the east edge of the circulation over water. This appears to be fueling the blow up of convection. Not really buying the models that call for the bulk of the rain to be in central VA, as most of the heavy convection seems to be north and east of the LLC, which would put Eastern NC and south eastern VA in the bull’s-eye of those heavy bands.

Gotta admit, this has been an amazing storm. For something that could never quite figure it all out, she impacted a whole lot of area. And even while over land, won't give up the circulations that are keeping winds and rain coming in.

I tend to agree, but I'm not 100% sure on that second part. If the low center continues to track inland, there's going to be rain both north and east of that as you can see from this slightly older loop from Columbia, SC.

There are a few videos on this page. One shows the size and speed of it pretty well.

Tons of fun tomorrow….
Is that rainfall forecast map in cm or inches? If the latter, then I might get nearly 4-5 inches of rain over the next 24 hours. I can’t remember any storm in recent memory that produced that much rain in this part of Connecticut.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

Elsa is smack-dab over land and she got stronger? Isn't there some sort of rule book for these storms?
Oh, baroclinic forcing? I don't think I've heard of that as a factor to strengthen storms over land since, well, Claudette.
