Henri has been such an odd looking system. It looks like it has about 2 degrees latitude of warm water left to snap something together. it's probably too little too late but who knows. It's no Bob that's for sure. but it definitely is going to leave a mark with a significant inland flood risk

It sure has one heck of a spiral. Just a massive rain band that has curled in. what a neat structure.

I am by no means a professional. DO NOT look at my forecasts for official information or make decisions based on what I post.

Goal: to become a registered expert over tropical and subtropical cyclones.

There have been some pretty good setups like really good or almost perfect in the gulf over the years.

I always find it cool how elongated storms get as they head north and exit the tropics.

Any idea why the plane suddenly turned around right before getting into the storm?

We wait all this time for recon…and then it turns back as soon as it enters the storm?!

I’m getting Willa flashbacks, and maybe the reason for this departure is the same as Willa: lightning hitting the plane.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

My guess is they want to go in on a different trajectory.

They gained altitude, convection is not that deep for them to go in so much higher.

AF302 and AF303 are now my two least favorite planes on the planet after Fred, Grace, and Henri.

Such awful timing: arriving after a multi hour flight only to turn back 20 minutes before a center pass. You can see the edge of Henri’s spiral on the recon graphic on Tropical Tidbits.

It always seems to happen at critical times. IMO Henri has a few hours to improve and recon could have confirmed it, before cooler SST will limit him
