On the latest visible zoomed in you can really see the convection around the center/open eye trying it’s best to wrap up

Such awful timing: arriving after a multi hour flight only to turn back 20 minutes before a center pass. You can see the edge of Henri’s spiral on the recon graphic on Tropical Tidbits.

Looks like NOAA is headed out there ... but I'd rather have the AF recon. So many problems with maintenance the last few years in the planes..whether it be coms or something else. So frustrating.

Thanks for the tip, I now see them also on flightradar app, I had no idea they also showed up on that app. :D

Yeah I love that app, and discovered tracking HH on it recently with Elsa, so far it's hit or mis with some of the NOAA aircraft

This is NOT an Official Forecast....Just my Opinion. For official information, please refer to the NHC and NWS products.

At least the NOAA plane has a shorter trip than AF303. Hopefully it catches Henri in time to sample its peak intensity.

Fingers crossed that we don’t have another recon disaster this year like Eta.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

Henri trying to wrap (albeit very weak) convection around the north quadrant for the first time in days

NHC trending slightly down in intensity and E with track.

When will it be time to consider funding new hurricane hunter planes?

Surely we can't keep using the same old planes forever. I expect we will continue to see increasing maintenance issues as the years go on, especially if we continue to see such active seasons.

Clearly, they were frightened by Henri's more ragged, elongated eye. There's another plane approaching, but it's not a low-level invest.

Henri appears to have elevated convection. Needs to spin down to intensify rapidly. won't have enough time however.

I am by no means a professional. DO NOT look at my forecasts for official information or make decisions based on what I post.

Goal: to become a registered expert over tropical and subtropical cyclones.

With all that heavy convection SE and E, it may signal another eastward track shift. The center may well miss Long Island. The center always follows the convection...

A hurricane with a tight core spinning over 30 SSTs. This should get interesting

FWIW: As storms gain latitude they usually have shallower convection for their intensity vs a storm at a lower latitude.

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

Structure has significantly improved looking at satellite, but still has shallow convection around the core. It is what it is a very strong TS/Low end Cat 1 that deserves respect.

Nice loop! I was just out in the Pamlico Sound in my boat just west of the blob that formed in the past couple of hours, that cloud looked very different from all the others in the area. Should have taken a pic.
