Low Pressure 500 miles SSE of Cabo Verde Islands (Is Invest 98L)

#1 Postby cycloneye » Mon Aug 23, 2021 12:53 pm

Another area of disturbed weather has developed in association with
a low pressure system located over the far eastern tropical Atlantic
more than 500 miles south-southeast of the Cabo Verde Islands. Some
slow development will be possible over the next several days while
the disturbance moves westward to west-northwestward at around to
15 mph over the eastern tropical Atlantic.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...10 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...medium...40 percent.

Is that the very far south and surprisingly healthy looking wave at ~25W? The NHC page hasn’t updated for me yet.

Edit: yep it is. I was gonna point that out on the indicators thread.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

If you track the vorticity on the models, you will find that the second possible development in the W Caribbean late next week seems to be from this tropical wave.

Quite a healthy wave. I'm surprised no model does anything with this yet.

Probably going to be like those early MDR systems in 2020 that weren’t even supposed to exist and develop

It looks to be a healthy system showing signs of movement. However to the north of it it is helping to contain the rather dusty SAL outbreak, the SAL outbreak could also affect it's development.

If the wave develops this early, wouldn't it feel the weakness left by 97L and move OTS instead?
