AL092021 has been upgraded to Tropical Storm Ida per the operational best track, so it seems appropriate to ask when Julian might form. So far, August has been very active. If Julian forms this August, 2021 would feature the most active August since 2012 in terms of storm count.
-August 26-29
-August 30-31
-September 1-5
-September 6-10
-September 11-20
-September 21-30
-October and beyond
-The season will end with Ida

Re: When will Julian form?
Both 97L and 98L actually look pretty good now. My bold prediction is that we get both Julian and Kate out of them, with the August 30 wave becoming Larry.

It's a race between 97L and 98L at this point.

Re: When will Julian form?
Just for funsies, I sometimes wonder if the S2K moderators would allow a poll like this to be posted for the name of a storm that is inevitably about to form merely hours after the naming of the prior alphabet-positioned storm. Like, Wilfred, Alpha, and Beta style.

Unless explicitly stated, all info in my posts is based on my own opinions and observations. Tropical storms and hurricanes can be extremely dangerous. Do not think you can beat Mother Nature. Refer to an accredited weather research agency or meteorologist if you need to make serious decisions regarding an approaching storm.

That is my prediction as well, but there is some GEFS and ECENS ensemble support suggesting another Western Caribbean storm in a couple of days.

I am predicting 98L to be Julian and 97L to be Kate but I can honestly see it being the other way around. Then after that you have the wave coming off of Africa on August 30th with strong model support, and also you have another West Carribean storm that could form around the same time as the August 30th wave making both of those storms candidates to be named either Larry or Mindy depending on which one forms first.

Should that happen, there would be seven storms in August, putting 2021 ahead of 1995 and 2005 and on pace with 2020.
