Thats the official forecast 110 MPH winds

No "M" in the forecast cone. 111mph is the key.

I tend to agree. This is in a very dangerous slot.

Well I do not like the cloud structure looking at it said 310/315' movement then the NHC says 325' The cloud structure when it gets elongated at times gives one a Short Term movement maybe 6/10hrs until the system becomes circular/even once again. This movement protracted for to long has this crossing Cuba further E?We shall see only p/u ten gallons for the generator going to need more if this continues not much but some. ;)

In Houma, rode out Zeta last year but was in a hotel. It was rough. Not sure if I should leave or not. In a 3 story concrete apartment complex on the 2nd floor. Getting nervous. Any advice?

Not too busy of a thread here considering that a "potential" major hurricane is heading for the gulf states....I guess gone are the days of 1,000 page threads LOL(the 2005 period)....I expect this board to get at least a little busier though over the weekend regardless, since many people will be home from work....

Probably because Ida had only been designated a depression for half a day and a TS just now, and even before genesis there was not much of an actual meteorological feature to discuss until just recently. If it was a CV storm that formed near Africa, then moved west and entered the Caribbean/Gulf, you would see much more traffic here.

If you are nervous about it and can afford it, leave. Maybe family farther away from the coast to stay with? I lived in Houma about 38 yrs ago..enjoyed my time there. BE safe and if you stay...get plenty of supplies..may not have any power for quite a few days. Good luck

Could just be because it'll be a short lived storm with only three days of warning before landfall. Cape Verde hurricanes that form way out in the MDR and slowly approach the US (eg. Irma) get more hype than the home-grown systems.

It's still early. Remember, it's the GoM where storms can go from Cat 2 to Cat 4 in hours.

So looks like the cone of uncertainty has moved slightly faster and further East.

Usually isn’t crazy busy unless Texas or Florida are threatened. Those states are well represented here. :cheesy:

Go with your gut. The Bayou hasn't been rocked all that hard over the years as you know. Down in Lafourche, old timers always talked about Juan which was 1985, and that was because of flooding and graves popping out the ground and all. Cindy wasn't all that, Gustav did flip some mobile homes and screw some stuff up, Ike flooded south Terrebonne. But there hasn't really been a Cat 3 through there in I don't even know how long. How well will the levees protect surge? If you're in East Houma, I'd probably get out or at least get my car out. If you're in an area that doesn't flood, you might be okay. But what's the highest point in Houma above sea level, like 5 feet? I wanted to ride this one out in Metairie, but we have to get K somewhere there will be power, and not just generator power. So that's that. We'll watch it on tv from Florida. Good luck whatever decision you make.

If i were in Houma, I would be ready to roll if get any larger than predicted now. They have added a lot of levees since i lived there in the 80s, but there was a lot of buffering wetlands too.

This might be a 40 kt TS instead of a 35 kt one. Quite impressive given that Ida isn’t even 12 hours old yet.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.
