Another CDO burst and it's off to the races, the burst as it made LF in Cuba was incredible, wish this storm was not going to impact land at all, as she is going to and has already shown us some remarkable imagery thus far in the season IMO.

I would not be surprised to see a near-term slight reduction in forward speed. Such might occur as a result of significant drop in pressures and commencement of RI.

Securing potential debris so pardon me for short messages, but St. Charles Parish (west of NO) at least is under mandatory evac which may explain some traffic observed as well.

Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes are under mandatory evacuations too.

TWC reporting that Louisiana has decided against implementing contraflow on the highways...I sincerely hope that is not a mistake that comes back to haunt them.

I'm hearing that gas stations are dry all over the region, it that's they case hopefully people stuck in traffic don't run out of it.

Forward speed is not an inhibiting factor here. Dean moved at like 20 knots in 2007 and reached Category 5 in the Caribbean. So did Allen in 1980.

I do not see any evidence of mid-level dry air intrusion on the recon. Atmosphere looks very moist. If there were the case, we'd see more thunderstorms collapsing and outflow boundaries moving away from Ida. Not every dry slot is dry air intrusion.

What we are seeing is Ida reorganizing after getting a little too amped up yesterday before landfall in Cuba. I pointed it out yesterday that this may happen. Now the old dying inner core is fighting a losing battle against a new, stronger inner core.

IR presentation is impressive. Multiple hot towers firing around the eye. This will be a violent hurricane in short order. All on track with the NHC forecast.

ULAC mention on TWC, at least they do a good job explaining Upper level influences then they used to, Dr. G Postal/R. Knabb are great Mets, Still miss the old days when I was a kid learning about Hurricanes from John Hope 8-)

Yeah, probably the best looking cat 1 I've seen together with Iota. And we all know what happened with Iota... It stayed at 70 - 75 kt for about 6 - 10 hours. I even remember that some people were saying 'see, you were just overselling this system'. And then it underwent RI from 974mb/75kt to 917mb/135kt within 18 hours. Ida is a ticking timebomb, we know it's gonna blow but we don't know exactly when so we're all just carefully looking at every IR frame and every recon measurement.

It's also worth noting also that Ida is currently tracking over the lowest OHC/coolest SSTs it'll encounter between now and landfall. I doubt that's having a huge impact at Ida's current strength, but it is another factor to consider.

Would greatly help reduce all of this traffic in a heartbeat.

What a nightmare for those people in LA and don't forget the hospitals already covered up with Covid patients. Hope the people heed the warnings and leave. I still could see a low end Cat. 5 getting reached with such warm SST's in its future.

SW eyewall improving rapidly. 67kts on AF drop. That's likely a gust but considering how weak that side was earlier it's certainly improving.
