There is a AF plane on route to Hurricane Nora in EPAC.

I am hoping someone can explain me this.

This is something I have saw when Katrina (and now Ida) travelled over the loop current, the eye opens up around Cat2 strength and immediately closes again only to open up after an EWRC with a much stronger system. How does this exactly happen since a system is supposed to weaken during EWRC just based on physics?

Is it because the oceanic heat from the loop current is so high that there is minimum weakening during the EWRC followed by an immediate explosive RI? :double:

Best looking cat 2 storm I have ever seen, think by the time the recon goes out later it will be a cat 4

I am getting flashbacks to Dorian as it transitioned from Cat 2 to 4.

You are hoping for 185mph winds heading into NOLA? :double:

Also a system as big as this would not ramp up that easily like tiny Dorian.

I really hope that Ida does NOT get as powerful as Dorian did, it would devastate Louisiana like Dorian did to The Bahamas . . . :(

Winter 2020-2021 :cold:

All observations are in Tecumseh, OK unless otherwise noted.

Winter posts are focused mainly for Oklahoma & Texas.

Take any of my forecasts with a grain of salt, refer to the NWS, SPC, and NHC for official information

You hope it does or does not? I'm a bit confused by what you just said there, no offense

kevin wrote:The next recon will probably be the most anticipated one since Eta & Iota last year. Any predictions on what it's gonna find? I'll say 967mb/95kt.

That sounds about right to me, it could be lower but right now the eye is messed up and there's still some dry air channels it's trying to fill in. But once those get taken care of we should see a rapid drop around the time recon gets there or shortly after. 3 hours later 955-ish wouldn't surprise me. I hope they start running missions every 3 hours soon because 6+ is too far apart, a lot is happening fast.

Definitely east of NHC track. I'm a bit worried for NOLA. When is the last time they were in the actual eyewall of a major?

And there's the eye closed again, probably going to undergo the EWRC or eye meld while over the loop current and eventually open up to a Cat 3/4...

Oh ok, now that makes more sense. Although I will say, now that we are faced with a strengthening storm that will likely cause death, damage, and trauma to Louisiana, I think it's important that those people who actively hope for a monster, destructive hurricane understand that they must be careful what they wish for as wishing for mass destruction and loss of lives is a mean-spirited thing to do and that they should tone their excitement down to a healthy and helpful level. I have definitely seen such individuals on social media, and imho while I am an avid hurricane tracker it infuriates me that there are a handful of trackers who simply wish for a monster, horrible hurricane just for the sake of it.

JUST A SILLY QUESTION:

12 Zuku is 7AM CDT and 8EDT, right? So about 6 1/2 hours old at 1:30 PM CDT?

This post is NOT an official forecast and should not be used as such. It is just my opinion and may or may not be backed by sound meteorological products.

Ida looks to be starting a period of ERI (explosive rapid intensification)
