(4) Ask yourself this when you get a reasonably calm moment: Why am I staying? Good question. There will be absolutely nothing you can do during the storm other than be scared to death. After the storm, you'll basically be able to do nothing. If your family or critters are with you, you'll be able to do little for them, either. If one of them or you get hurt, somebody had better have VERY good first-aid skills; some injuries, however, would just be untreatable until professional medical help became available. And that, literally, could be days away. Why in the world would you ever put yourself and them in a position where somethng like that would even have a chance of happening?

I hope I'm getting my point across. The rest is up to you.

Godspeed, regardless...

Just to address this point, many people stay because they cannot afford or do not have simple means of conveyance to leave.

If you have a chance between potentially getting hit by a hurricane and a definite strain on your finances for an indefinite period of time, some people will unfortunately feel forced to opt for the former.

I have some people in Gonzales that wont leave. Its a 9 member family. They live in a raised house. Is it to late for them to leave? Should I just stop trying to get them to leave?

Ehh Ventusky is probably just running off the GFS or EURO forecast, wait for the storm to be actually near landfall to compare sizes...

As someone in the path, you all have permission to publicly wish for a Mach 6 nuclear hypersharknadocane in the GoM . . . hell, I'd dig it from a scientific nerd perspective, too . . . provided you follow it up with a heartfelt, non-obligatory-in-tone wish for miraculous dissolution well away from populated areas to the point that its primary impact is on everyone's underwear.

The GFDL would've had all this figured out by now.

I was just looking at past hurricanes similar in intensity and approach to the forecast for IDA. Betsy 1965 looks awfully close.

This post is NOT an official forecast and should not be used as such. It is just my opinion and may or may not be backed by sound meteorological products.

Zeta wasn't major when it was over NOLA.

yes, that is cat 3 but it just barely hit 100 knot in the marshland and weakened after that. NOLA is not directly on the coast. I think New Orleans got cat 1 winds in Zeta, maybe low end 2. This will be much stronger. If this landfalls as a high end 4, it could actually be a 3 in NOLA which is quite scary.

Hmm I suppose? But then again, oftentimes these very minute factors may not have any discernible impact on the overall outcome, and unfortunately this micro-observation alone imho does not seem to really be the result of a greater, more detrimental issue such as shear or dry air. Hence, I am personally skeptical that this alone would prevent a Cat 4 from occurring.

Unless explicitly stated, all info in my posts is based on my own opinions and observations. Tropical storms and hurricanes can be extremely dangerous. Do not think you can beat Mother Nature. Refer to an accredited weather research agency or meteorologist if you need to make serious decisions regarding an approaching storm.

Also, the updated cone seems to have landfall at 7 pm Louisiana time tomorrow. An extra 5 or so hours of water is certainly not good.

This could get ugly and I dont see alot of people really giving a poop.

I wonder if the Katrina Generation largely left the city and the new crop havent seen a storm like this or if folks are just fatigued from Covid and don't care.

Zeta made landfall in an uninhabited marsh. The city of New Orleans itself received low-end category 1 winds.

Looks like it's continuing to tighten up on visible. NHC had this becoming a major by this evening and it looks to be on track for that.
