Re: ATL: IDA - Hurricane - Discussion
Ida appears to be making the transformation from bursting towers to a mature and stable ring around the eye. The rate of deepening should continue, and this will be a cat4 very soon if it isn’t already.

Re: ATL: IDA - Hurricane - Discussion
If it keeps deepening at this rate all the way up to landfall, I would argue that the possibility of it reaching category five shortly before or practically at landfall is still possible.

Me too, I had to go look outside to see it,; )
Did you look up to see if you could see the line, Tailgater?
Yep, white dotted line across the sky, time for some restless sleep cuz I know I’ll be up all night tomorrow night.

It would absolutely have to book it on intensification to get Cat 5. I just don’t see it. A mid-grade Cat 4? Sure.

When's the last time we had two major hurricanes in the Gulf in August? I was hard pressed to find two during the month anywhere in the basin prior to 1995, at least going back to the 1970s.

Well HWRF has 115 kt landfall into NOLA so that's not good

I lost a bet last year because I thought Laura would make it to CAT5 just before landfall, and even though I still think it did for a very brief time I still lost the bet.

Re: ATL: IDA - Hurricane - Discussion
In the 11pm discussion the NHC said the following
Has anyone looked to see if this is continuing? If so there could be an EWRC coming soon. I'm just too tired to go look. The eye cant get much smaller
Flight-level and
SFMR observations also indicate that Ida's wind field has expanded
and there is some indication of a double-wind maximum.

Re: ATL: IDA - Hurricane - Discussion
Well I was watching TWC and Bettes just seemingly “signed off” for the night and now they playing the local on the 8s music on constant repeat while showing an endless barrage of weather graphics involving Ida (rain, wind, etc.)

Re: ATL: IDA - Hurricane - Discussion
I want to say that’s good…but if the hurricane force winds have expanded then I guess it doesn’t even matter for N.O.
