Note to self: never overestimate the possibility of an EWRC with a storm that could RI to landfall.

Edit: wow 145 kt FL/130 kt SFMR. Looks like they missed the eye but holy jeez this is intensifying fast

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

There are already many instances of this in the WPAC, in this case I find Ida's case similar with Mangkhut (2018).

Ida’s CDO on Dvorak definitely surpasses Laura’s and even Michael’s in terms of symmetry and frigidity. The eye is going to be similarly warm to the latter’s, too.

NOAA seems to have quirky readings most of time.

Catch a couple hours of sleep and all hell breaks loose.

Never good when Senior NHC Scientist talks about fearing for an area. Praying for all in harm's way.

Ida is definitely at least 130 kt now and likely stronger, tying 1856 and Laura. We are likely looking at Louisiana’s strongest landfall on record since 1851.

NOAA plane has faulty extrapolated pressure. Disregard. But wow at the winds…

Ida intensified from 70 kt category 1 to a 125 kt category 4 in exactly 24 hours. That's an increase of 55 kt, more than enough for RI or even ERI. In fact as I posted in an overview more than 100 pages ago (http://www.storm2k.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=122135&p=2932299&hilit=database+person#p2932299), it is on par with the ERI phase of Laura and only below Camille, Anita, Freeport and Celia in terms of GOM ERI in August.

The eye literally cleared out within the span of the past fifty minutes on IR. That is one of the fastest such clearings I have personally observed.
